Big big shame
Bit more from the BBC website

Yes, very sad to hear about Richard's death..........but what wonderful memories he leaves for everyone.RIP
Here's a link to his BBC obituary

Aw bless - what gifted man he was and what a legacy of stage and screen joy he leaves behind him.
Very sad to hear this news. An extraordinarily talented actor who - despite his string of varied and successful work (both on stage, film and TV) - I felt was still very underrated.
I hope there'll be a tribute to his (Good) life.
RIP Richard
The term "comedy legend" is often oversued but, for me, Richrd Briers was jsut that.
I STILL think that "The Good Life" is THEE best sitcom I have ever watched, there may have been funnier ones but the combination of 'story', 'laughs' and great acting from ALL the cast puts it at No.1 with me.
R.I.P Richard
So true sad news
But a wonderful legacy.
What a great actor he was. I saw him say, in an interview, that 'Ever Decreasing Circles' was his personal favourite of all his roles, and I agree with him. I have the DVD set, and frequently watch an episode or two.
He has left us such a wonderful variety of shows to watch, for which I'm very grateful.
A word often misused, but in his case very appropriate - he was a

Ever Decreasing Circles was my favourite of his too. Time for a repeat I think.

Ever Decreasing Circles was my favourite of his too. Time for a repeat I think.
Me too.
His co-stars of Penelope Wilton, Peter Egan, Stanley Lebor and Geraldine Newman, as Paul and Howard & Hilda made it such a likeable series.
RIP Martin...
Brush your shoes and turn the telephone round before you enter The Pearly Gates.
Very sad news about a great actor, not just comedy he could play a very menacing character too.
RIP, Richard and thanks for the memories.
RIP Richard. Apart from his comedy roles I remember him as the evil professor in Morse!
I'm truly sad to hear this news, it's not often I feel too emotional about the passing of actors over the years but Richard Briers is someone who just exuded warmth. The Good Life in particular was and still is a huge favourite of mine as was the play Norman Conquests and of course there are numerous other examples of his work that we can fondly remember him by.
Very sad... I might have been watching a 40+ year-old man when I was barely in my teens, and perhaps my hormones meant I focused a bit more on Felicity, but this is really a bit of my youth passing... RIP

Oh, how sad, I am so sorry to hear this news. He was one of our very best comic actors. R.I.P.

Can I also please add, his voiceover for Roobarb & Custard was a highlight too!

I can't believe it. This is so sad. I remember Richard in so may programmes and flims. He is unreplaceable a truely gifted actor.
R.I.P Richard.
Heaven is a better place today now that you are there.
And to Richard family I am so sorry for your loss.
Ever Decreasing Circles is one of my all time faves. I worked with a Martin Bryce - such an apparent pain but a heart of gold. An ensemble cast of brilliance.
Very sad - always enjoyed watching him.
Ever Decreasing Circles - brilliant!

Lovely, lovely man by all accounts - wonderful, gifted and generous to work with according to those interviewed on the radio. I loved watching Ever Decreasing Circles and the early episodes of Monarch of the Glen. Saddened that I never had the chance to see him on stage in a more serious role.
Rest peacefully, Richard

I liked that as well and it was the first time that I saw Michael Gambon another Ayckbournian. Unfortunately it didn't catch on.
Sad news indeed. He was a good actor and had many varied roles under his belt. RIP Richard.
Sad news. I wonder why the magnificent Ever Decreasing Circles has been rarely repeated. I also have the box set and it is superb. The Martin Bryce character could have been easily dislikeable if not so well played by Richard Briers. A sure sign of his acting and comedy talent.
Richard Briers was a great actor
He will be missed very much
Any chance of a repeat of If You See God, Tell Him or The Other One?

I've enjoyed Richard Briers' work since Marriage Lines with Prunella Scales in 1961.

I hope there will be a tribute program on BBC One in the very near future and perhaps BBC Four could have a Richard Briers evening, showing a selection of his programs from the archive?

That would be excellent, brightondancer
. This morning there was a really good interview with Penelope Keith on the Today programme. He clearly was a much loved and admired man on and off screen. Personally, I think the casting for The Good Life was absolute genius - also that for Ever Decreasing Circles with the wonderful Howard and Hilda, so sweet.
So, yes please, BBC a tribute evening - and make it a good one ..... or two. His body of work deserves it.

I also loved "The Other One" and was surprised that it was not a hit. Gambon played the part of a reasonably successful librarian, who was persuaded by Richard Briers' character to quit the job in pursuit of riches from various crazy schemes he had devised. The acting was of course fantastic.
Many sitcoms that have turned out to be hits have taken some time to take off, and I think if the BBC had given "The Other One" another series it might have been a different story.

I remember hearing about when he acted opposite Robert De Niro. There was a scene they did together in which De Niro's character had to be persuaded to open a door and let in Richard Briers' character. The director told Richard "You do realise you've got to persuade Bob", and when Richard responded along the lines that he knew what the script said, the director, alluding to De Niro's Method acting, said "No. You've REALLY got to persuade him."

Does that mean the BBC are going to show a repeat of "Ever Decreasing Circles" ? If so,when?

As a tribute to Richard Briars I hope they do show some episodes of Ever Decreasing Circles, Good Life, Monach of the Glen and the many other great series that he has been in. Plus several films that he has been in.
If this is not done as a tribute to him then it really will be a travesty of justice.
Sad he has passed away.
Ever Decreasing Circles never seems to get repeated these days.

Hi Zenze
Here is an episode of Ever Decreasing Circles
www.youtube.com/watc...
A great actor who will never be forgotten
I will add to those many tributes so far by saying how I empathised with him over his love of his 'ciggies'. Then the b*ggers caught up with him.
Always so natural, and in the end so honest. A sweet natural man exhibiting a 'Joie de Vivre' rarely seen these days.
I miss him, and want to see repeats of his best bits. Please.
Anyone remember his drunken seduction scene with Penelope Keith in the Good Life'?

Does anybody remember a one-off TV
drama with RB in which he played a man suffering
from dementia. It was a black comedy as he
kept doing silly things.
He started a business making hand
knitted tea cosies but he only had one employee.
She was an old lady who was sitting in his shed all
day knitting. His daughter and her husband didn't know
what to do with him.
I don't know what it was called and I've never seen it
repeated.

I've tried to recall this, and feel I might have seen it.
He also played a sinsister role as an old and really unpleasant seducer (dyed hair) in something relatively recently. Darned if I can remember which series this was... one of those long running 'tec things.
He was brilliant!

the programme you are thinking of is called Dad where Richard Briers had dementia
You might find the play in this lot of some of RB's works.
He was in a play in 1974 called 'You Don't Remember' which sounds promising but apart from the title..... I can't find anything else about it!
