How rude was she this morning? I think singers etc should be left to sing andNOT interviewed...they usually let themselves down when they stop singing and start talking....

she was absolutely disgusting,as an ageing has been with one well known record you'd think she'd be grateful to the BBC for airing her boring droning

My apologies, lionwillow70. I did check for a thread but you must have opened yours as I was writing mine
. I expect my thread will go - no problem.
But I do agree with your sentiments regarding Ms O'Connor.

Well to be fair to Sinead, she had a terrible introduction reminding her of bad times, just before a live performance,
She has been treated awfully in the past especially the 90's when speaking out on certain subjects & everyone condemned her but it turned out she was right yet no apology from anyone . I remember 'The Sun's' front page when she ripped a picture of the pope up when speaking out about abuse 'claims' calling her mad , she's been proved right all along so fair play to her i say .

No problem, fox at moonlight....I was so annoyed I was waiting for the links to go live and posted as soon as I could...glad I'm not the only one who thought she was unpleasant.....

The thing about Sinead O'Connor is that she has a good singing voice, but she's nuts. The way to deal with her is therefore to enjoy her singing, but ignore her talking.

Yes, it's annoying when singers have outspoken views that turn out to be right, isn't it?
I don't watch this show, though would have recorded it if I'd realised Eddie Mair was presenting.
Sinead O'Connor was on Loose Ends on R4 yesterday, handled rather well by Clive Anderson I thought, and performed an a cappella song that went on and on and on. She remained in pitch which was pretty impressive, but I won't be rushing out to buy the album (or whatever one does these days).

Her new album - and that track she sang - are wonderful.
But come on dearie, button it or learn some basic manners.
The host could have wiped the floor with your shrewish backchat, but instead let you hang yourself with your own silly tongue.

I thought this related to that woman who summarised the papers on the show today. She frequently nterrupted and came cross as selfish, opinionated woman who could only see her own concept of what is right, determined not to let anyone else speak. Both of the men seemed embarrassed by her attitude and I gave up watching so missed Sinead who sounds as if she was even worse ! Does the BBC think this impresses the watching public ?

What about her views on the provisional IRA, which she later retracted with the excuse that she was "too young to understand the tense situation in Northern Ireland properly".
But not young enough to keep her mouth shut.

I don't know why they insist on having singers on at all on what is supposed to be a serious news and politics programme. I've never yet seen any musical guests I'm remotely interested in listening to.

Agreed jodie.
I'm normally a big fan of Eddie Mair (particularly on Radio 4's 'PM' program) but I found his treatment of Sinead O'Connor (as a guest performer) this morning to be less than expected from a Sunday morning BBC television presenter. His questions, tone and body language were quite bullying.

I'm not an apologist for her, ER, and I haven't followed her career. But if she did do that then that makes her more honest than most politicians, doesn't it? I forget who it was who said 'When I realise I'm wrong, I change my mind,' or words to that effect.

Correction, she has a very good singing voice and is anything but "nuts".maybe appears a little eccentric at times but certainly not "nuts"
She is a very sensible lady, and of course has a new record to sell

She was very good on Alan Titchmarsh , she's very good when approached/interviewed properly . She said dont bring that bad stuff up then which was ignored by the interviewer so what do you expect .

Baroness Helena Kennedy, QC, Labour Peer in the House of Lords and a frequent guest on the AMS.
I thought it all seemed quite friendly. She was introduced as a veteran of the programme by the presenter, and both joked they had better give way to her.
I don't consider her to be a 'ghastly woman' at all, in fact she is always lively and interesting.
As for Sinaid - I felt her introduction was somewhat marred by mentioning her past. The song was great by the way.

IDS probably had a list of guests on his hand so that he could be sure to get their names right: Eddie, Helena, Sinéad, etc.

I take it that IDS refers to Ian Duncan Smith a guest of the program?
Why would he need a list of guests?

Perhaps he had a list of his qualifications ready to hand so he could be sure to get their names right?
Much as I like Eddie Mair, I thought he rolled-over during the IDS interview.
I would have liked to ask IDS how he used to fund his diary secretary, whether he married into landed wealth and whether he sees any irony in stopping geology graduates from continuing to work unpaid in museums when he does not appear to have attended the University of Perugia?

Good point Percy, it could also have read "NB Do not attempt any serious conversation with the pop singer!".
Link to this forum: Andrew Marr Show 17 Feb - Sinead O'Connor
Quite right. She's been flogging herself around the T.V. studios this week saying how wonderful her album is just like any old pop singer.
She thinks she is SO original - sorry babe the drag and attitude are a bit outdated.

Yes, I can't find anything on how Andrew is progressing. I even looked on Twitter. There is someone on there using Andrew's name and his photo but the content of his tweets make me find it hard to believe it is actually him!
Hope all is going well with him, too.

I have always thought it was stupid having singers on the show. As for Skinhead O'Connor - an enigma - a great talent who never made it big and also quite possibly troubled. Her contribution was no worse than the garbagge being discussed elsewhere in that studio.

While I agree that O'Connor was a bit rude, Mair is as dull as ditchwater. He should have just introduced her, and left her to it. He even managed to make IDS look dynamic, getting the easiest ride ever.

Asking someone not to bring up bad stuff isn't the same as saying 'don't challenge my opinions'. If someone has well-documented mh issues surely an interviewer should tread carefully?
Anyway, if big talents were like all the rest of us, they wouldn't be big talents. Eccentricity kind of goes with the territory.
Considering that half the world downloads artists' music for free, why shouldn't they try to promote their records and try to get people to pay for the music they've written?
