I've read a few suggestions before of who should take over and id like to throw this usggestion in to the ring... What about Ben Shepard to take over?
He's excellent on ITV's Tipping point and has a good rapport with the contestants
Not bad - nice bit of eye candy for us girls!
My choice would be Gethin Jones who has the connection with Strictly.
When Sir Brucie leaves Strictly
They should axe it.
The thing with him is that he is a tad wooden.....
Don't be so selfish!
My concern is that one (or both) of the current ladies might take over and this would be a mistake.
Now who else is 'popular' at the moment and would also be wrong:
The horsey girl? from the olympics
The chap who swum the Thames
The QI chap
Prof Brian Cox
The replacement (when it comes) will be difficult to choose and accept - Bruce will be a difficult act to follow.

I think its a tough choice.......
If he would do it, John Barrowman would be ideal. He has a song and dance background and good 'family' appeal from his various TV shows.
Julian Clary (who took part) would be good - and stand up for the contestants when certain judges get over bitchy.

The host or hostess plays a supporting role in what is essentially about the contestants and the judges. Bruce Forsythe has been allowed to impose his presence onto the captive audience rather like the overbearing over attentive waiter who keeps interrupting the conversations at the table to ask if everything is ok.
I think a programme to find the new host or hostess would be fun.

In my considered opinion the BBC currently employs far too may old fogies, who should all now be forced to retire and make way for a much youger and fresher generation of television presenters.
Both Bruce Forsyth and Terry Wogan are two prime examples of stars that are way passed "their sell by date" and therfore should now be jettisoned.
Moreover, by simply refusing to retire these geriatric celebrities are effectively depriving the next generation of getting the chance of seeking out a career on television themselves.
Unemployment levels for today's youth is at a all time high with 1.02 million 16 to 24 year olds now out of work.

The chap who swum the Thames
Trenton Oldfield? I'm not sure the BBC would give him the gig after he disrupted one of their flagship programmes.
www.bbc.co.uk/news/u...
Anyway, message 3 has got it right. When Sir Bruce leaves, the show should be discontinued as a mark of respect. Just as West Ham United retired the No. 6 shirt as an honour to Bobby Moore, and the New York Cosmos did similar with Pele, so SCD should be retired when SBF can no longer present it.
If he would do it, John Barrowman would be ideal. He has a song and dance background and good 'family' appeal from his various TV shows.

I've always thought Julian Clary would be a great replacement; Gethin Jones is also a good suggestion, but not keen on seeing John Barrowman every week - about once or twice a year is enough for me!

I don't this programme as much as I used to when it first appeared but I certainly don't think it should be axed. Personally, I'd like it to return to the way it was without all the pantomime between the judges and Bruce - a bit less of the behind the scenes rehearsals - more music appropriate to the dances - better costumes - less flesh on show (and I'm not an old fogey) - fewer bits and pieces all over the place (aka props) and, for goodness sake, dump those blessed irritating flashlights.
But I won't hold my breath so I'll just pop in now and then.
No point in thinking of a replacement as I think they'll be wheeling BF out forever more.

I agree, he treats the show as his own personal vehicle
The show is not about him

Tom Daley. or. Louis Smith. Both under the age of 24 years.
The chap who swum the Thames is David Walliams and he is a judge on BGT so would be ruled out.

No thanks to The Clary or (the American sounding & hyper) Barrowman.
No-one can replace the awesome force that is Mr Saturday Night. I would rather the BBC axe Strictly (and come up with a new format) than have Brucie 'replaced'!

In today's 'obsessed with yoof' culture, the likes of Angela Rippon, Terry, Ronnie and Brucie are a welcome break. I would rather have knowledge, experience and talent over vacuous empty heads obsessed with looks and 'hyper'.
No, leave Bruce alone. He is fab-u-lous.
I don't want a snotty kid fronting things all the time
I would hardly call Gethin a "snotty kid"! He is all of 35 and has done lots of television presenting, including three years on Blue Peter.

I get your point,
Perhaps I still remember them as being younger, I mean will Dec and Ant ever grow up in my eyes, even when they are 50?
I can never envisage them as being elder statesmen of TV like Sir B.
John Barrowman would be too much with all his cheese....My Vote still stays with Ben Shepard...

One of the fundamental problems with contemporary television nowadays is that it is absolutely full with old, 'has been', showbiz stars who now staunchly refuse to retire, and, misguidedly, believe that they can actually continue working until they literally dropped down dead.

Your link is slightly unkind, but also so true!
After seeing Tim Vine on Dance For Comic Relief tonight, great dancer and quick with one liners, he would be ideal to present SCD
After seeing Tim Vine on Dance For Comic Relief tonight, great dancer and quick with one liners, he would be ideal to present SCD Not Tim Vine....He is just so annoying
After being reaquainted with Alex and Steve in Let's Dance For Comic Relief I had the nightmare vision of this being the youthful team to replace Bruce and Tess... May Bruce live long and healthy!
And if John Barrowman is going to front SCD then Stricly and I are quits as well. My vote is still for Anton.
It would not surprise me if the person to take over from Bruce is already chosen. They would be just waiting for him to decide when to retire, as I believe it is what he would want to do.
There is always the chance that there is never a permanent host of SCD and we have "Guest Hosts" each series. That would definitely sort the chiff from the chaff.
The ones who really do the best job of it would get asked back, provided that they want to do it, of course. Then the right amount of money would be the attraction, I suppose...it all could get a bit messy.
I'm looking forward to the next series.

Ever since he frrst appeared on Sunday Night at the London Palladium, I have never been able to understand the attraction of Bruce Forsyth.
A self-obsessed attention seeker IMO.
And he does it so well!
You could say that about nearly every performer on TV

Thats a good point you make about guest hosts but as for the suggestion in another post for Anton..Noooooooooooooooooooooooo!
Anton is just an annoyance that should go away and never come back...ever
Watching him host the Lottery game show, they perhaps should consider Dale Winton. Smart appearance, able to present live and an established face on screen.
As I never watch this show, I would be obliged if the BBC could engage any (or all) of the following, for as long as possible (please):
1/ John Barrowman.
2/ Wee Davie McDonald (aka Tennant).
3/ Michael Portillo.
4/ Claudia Winkelman.
5/ 'Ant and Dec'.
6/ Stephen Fry.

Anton is preferable to B B Brucie mind you almost anybody is preferable to B B Brucie

Without making a personal comment regarding Dale, I think Brucie is much 'fitter'...read between the lines!

The fact that no-one can agree on a possible replacement suggests that - in my view - Brucie is in a strong position...thank goodness. Strictly without Brucie is like bread without butter.
No to:
Ant or Dec
Bradley
Les
Claud, Zoe, Sarah, Fearne or any other ladette types
Dermot
Paddy
Michael
Alexander
Anyone associated with Cowell

How do you feel about Angela Rippon?
Ian Waite? (I would prefer him to Anton)
Graeme Norton? (good on the ALW shows and Dance Fever)

This is a message board for lots of points of view. Whilst you are entitled to yours, I am indeed entitled to mine...which I will keep expressing. I am a big fan of Brucie and Strictly. I will continue to counter the 'antis' on this board and others...so get used to it.
Brucie is integral to the success of Strictly.

For me, Graham is more suited to the 10.30pm slots...where he has more freedom. I am not sure he is suited to 'tighter', light entertainment formats.
Re: Angela...to replace Tess?...absolutely happy with that. Angela has a lot more about her...more depth. She would bring even more class to the show.
Anton vs Ian? For me, Anton. He is very Bruce-esque.

You confuse me , Myles?
I have compared you with your hero, Mr Saturday NIght and yet for some reason you regard it as somehow a negative thing and berate me for it?
Hasn't there been enough trolling and personal jabs yet? I'm getting quite tired of the constant sniping. Yes, he likes Bruce and likes to say so. You don't like Bruce and it's very fine to say so too. Everyone their point of view. But the constant pouncing upon someone's personal opinion and the who-little-old-me?-act is childish and frankly quite boringfor the rest of us.

What a sad concept. But it sits well alongside Bruce Forsyth himself, who seems to believe that he is bigger than the show. You must be his publicist Myles.
I don't think Clary would be anything other than dreadful. Unless he is allowed to be smutty to the nth degree he is awful.
