One Show tonight - out of their depth? Bruce Willis.

  I quite like Alex and Matt, but with Bruce Willis tonight they looked like sycophantic school kids. Parkinson they're not. OK Bruce was being a bit super cool and not very communicative, but is the One Show a chat show. Probably not. If they had stopped talking occasionally and stopped creeping and fawning over him, maybe they'd have got a bit more out of him.

  Congratulations go to Alex and Matt in trying to get a decent conversation going with Mr. Willis, who, in my opinion, was one of the most boring guests on the show.
  The really worked very hard tonight.

  Totally agree, come on BBC, why do you persist with giving Alex and Matt the big guests? They're both great when it's a serious or lighthearted topic but when they are up against a bigger guest they fail miserably. If you were going to get Bruce Willis on then you should have him on the show on a Friday when Chris is on. He may not be everyone's cup of tea but he always handles the bigger personalities better and gets more from them. It was the same last year before the Queen's Jubilee concert when Alex and Matt were left to interview Paul McCartney, Elton John, Kylie etc. They just got all excited they had been given the gig. The hour format worked better on a Friday when you had Chris Evans handle the bigger guests and he is not fazed by them and he has more time to talk to them. It was just another cringeworthy interview again tonight.

  I couldn't understand why the audience were erupting in rapturous applause every time BW muttered something. Matt and Alex worked really hard. I wonder why some guests bother to turn up if they really don't want to engage with the presenters.

  I thought the interviewing of Bruce Willis was completely inane. Both presenters showed themselves to be limited to asking only the most obvious of questions and "having a bit of a laugh using pictures of the public".
  I would expect that, to avoid potential embarassment, he was informed as to what questions he was going to be asked, and, with the subject of on gun law being probably not suitable for an early-evening audience, or too provcative, the BBC chose to dive into his back-catalogue rather than discuss more relevant subjects.
  I don't for a minute think that Bruce Willis wants to be reminded of Moonlighting ('80's - and he didn't get on with Cybill Shepherd), or his alter-ego "Bruno the bartender" (also the 80's), when he is a multi-million dollar action movie actor with multiple films out this year.
  
  I can only assume that he looked and acted the way he did because he realised the immature, and unimaginative presenting technique and content he would be subjected to. The man looked as if to say "why did I agree to this?" To be honest, I can't blame him.

  When they said at the start 'send us your Die Hard pictures' I thought how pathetic can this get.
  
  I still think a more experienced presenter /interviewer would have done better. Jonathon Woss? Even Alan Carr. Come to that, I'd like to have Sarah Millican talk to him! That would have been interesting.
  
  When the part about hospital mal-treatment came up I wondered if I was watching a party political broadcast. I actually clicked on the TV guide.

  Presumably Matt and Alex would have been introduced to Bruce Willis before the show and someone should have gone through the running order and briefed on the questions he would be asked? That is why I was surprised that Matt, in particular, looked like a rabbit in the headlights, as though he realised it might not go well and would be hard work within the first 2 or 3 minutes of the show.
  
  I've seen BW interviewed a few times and his performance yesterday was pretty typical. I suspect he is one of many actors who are basically shy but, fed some good lines, enjoy and are excellent at pretending to be someone they are not.

  Well said! I can't believe that Bruce Willis is being criticised for being a poor guest and not giving much to the interview. It wasn't an interview! I really don't know what it was, other than a perfect demonstration of how not to engage with a guest. If I was Willis, I'd have walked off in sheer embarrassment for the 'presenters'.
  
  How many times did they repeat the same statement about the 'father-son' aspect of the film? It was drawn out to death and was simply so they could cut to a tenuous feature about fathers and sons. The interview was summed up, most simply, by referring to 'Moonlighting', one of the funniest shows of the eighties, where the researchers managed to track down possibly the least funny clip imaginable.
  
  Shame on every single person involved in this awful episode of this frankly awful TV show!

  I'm not a One Show fan, but sometimes allow it to garble away when I'm cooking; when I saw Bruce Willis was on, I gave him a few moments and then turned off. For some reason, I've always thought that Bruce Willis is a notoriously awful chatshow guest because he takes himself way too seriously and treats the interviewers with contempt (whatever the show or interviewer's rep.). Have I just made that up, or were others under this impression too?

  The One Show is car crash TV. Alex Jones has an unnerving ability to sound like she is reading (badly) from an autocue even when she isn't and Matt is totally dull. Gyles Brandreth is by far the best thing on the programme. It's a proper squirmfest.

I'm not surprised Bruce Willis didn't reply to the ridiculous questions put forward by Alex. She really is out of her depth with stars of Willis's caliber. In fact he looked as though he couldn't wait to escape the awkward scenario.

If they had stopped talking occasionally and stopped creeping and fawning over him, maybe they'd have got a bit more out of him.  Well, let's face it - having Bruce Willis opposite you on the sofa would be enough to get anyone excited i would imagine - this fella is an absolute 'A' lister the world over and not just your usual 'B' list celeb you tend to get on this show - it was a real boon for the One Show i thought with Bruce coming across as a rather smouldering John McClane - he certainly made me feel a bit edgy and i was only just watching

  Mark Kermode is on News 24 at the moment reviewing A Good Day to Die Hard, which he says is absolute rubbish. (Apart from the first 3 minutes where Sophie Raworth playing Sophie Raworth is good as a newsreader.)
  
  I saw the interview clip again on Charlie Brookers Newswipe (or whatever it's called now) and it still makes me cringe. (It was on Brookers to show how bad it was of course.) I do feel some sympathy for Matt and Alex, but I still say were way out of their depth. The way Matt sat forward grinning at Bruce as though Xmas had come early was nausiating. They just can't handle that kind of guest. He obviously sensed their awe at his presence and decided to be super cool. (Or super stupid.) If Clive Anderson had been the interviewer (in his day,) he would have asked him if he wanted to be there? Or if he wanted to do more than grunt an answer.
  
  After Mark K's review I won't be rushing to see the rubbish movie anyway.

  He looks the type who wouldn't suffer fools gladly, and, if anybody tried it on with him he'd probably chew them up.
  
  I think that's why Matt and Alex were more delicate with him than anything

  I don't think Mr Willis would give the former barrister too many problems in cross-examination.  Oh i would definately think so - the Bee Gees certainly did, and, i consider them a lot more placid than Mr Willis :¬)

  The only way Willis would get the better of Clive Anderson in an argument is by using an interview double.  Or, borrowing the character of 'John McClane' from the Die-hard movies
