Being set in London would have given a far larger population to be killed off.
Will there enough villagers left for another series? The mortality rate in Father Brown's village is even exceeding that of the Midsomer district!
But in MS we all know that it's Joyce whodunnit and at least with this FB serialisation there's a bit of puzzlement and forgiveness about the villains.
Despite it having nothing in common withe the original books.
A good view nonetheless
Another series would be good and spread over more than two weeks of daytime TV, please.

The Blue Cross was an outstanding episode, finishing the series on a high. I'm so glad we're getting another series.
The whole cast are great, Mark Williams is wonderful.
This weeks episodes I think have been better than lasts, and agree whole heartedly about Mark Williams
I'm not sure that message 80 means there will be another series, just that these 10 episodes, may be repeated at a time when more can enjoy them 'live', as they did with The Indian Doctor.
The BBC have commissioned another series, as reported in yesterday's Guardian.
I'm not a Guardian reader, so was not aware of the article....but am very pleased that there will me more.

I also hadn't seen this article but I am very pleased that there will be more. I was dubious when I first read about it, I'm never very keen on dramas that are "based" on someone's characters, but this has been great fun (like TV used to be!) and Mark Williams is so believable.

Really enjoyed this series. Made watching tv in the afternoon worthwhile. The acting is great and Mark Williams as Father Brown convinced me. My Harry Potter mad daughter couldn't see any Mr Weasley in him. Can't wait for series 2 and the further development of characters. I agree it could be in an evening slot but daytime programmes are so poor and it was the highlight of my afternoons.

Yes I lost a a few recordings due to my DVD playing up. Had to take my laptop home from work to catch up. Still it was well worth it. Great series and deserves an evening slot. Mark Williams was great casting as were the other regulars. Hope they make some more.

Was tipped off about Father Brown by some retired folk
Catching up on iplayer and think it's great!
Would be great if you could extend the time they're available!
Also look forward to a prime time slot they deserve.

Have just watched "The Blue Cross". It was excellent, absolutely outstanding. One of the most entertaining programmes on TV for months. The whole series has been thoroughly enjoyable and it has got better as it has gone on. Mark Williams is excellent as Father Brown. I await the DVD, and I do hope that there will be another series. Father Brown could be sent on a trip somewhere on church business if there have been too many bodies for one village, and as with ""The Blue Cross" they don't all have to be murders.
There should definitely be a Christmas special.

Got to be the sleeper series of 2013 & praise be for the iplayer which enabled me to catch up.
Suggestions for series 2 - double the budget, move to sunday 8pm slot. (remove the motorway noises occasionally heard).
Mark Williams - brilliant - I'll get me coat.

The body in the locked room turns out to have been killed by the person who made a pretence of unlocking the door which was never really locked in the first place.
A catholic adoption centre forces a mother to give up her newborn child, and she then goes on to steal someone else's baby.
It's bad enough that this series doesn't use Chesterton's stories, characters. locations or period, but simply steals (sorry, "adapts") his title character, but when some of its "original" plots turn out to have been recycled from Death in Paradise and Call the Midwife you've got to wonder what's the point.

Yes, I tend to agree with you. I was surprised at how many people in POV seem to have fallen in love with this series. I only watched two of the shows and found the plots in both to be extremely clumsy, flimsy and predictable. I don't even think David Williams is particularly good in the lead role, but I seem to be a lone "anti" voice amongst many fans. However, if "Father Brown" brings so much joy to so many people, long may it continue. I know how great it can be to look forward to a programme each week. And the scenery is terrific. But I can't be bothered watching it myself.

I really enjoyed this series, despite the fact it has little to do with Chesterton's character and stories. Reminded me a little of Stephen Fry's Kingdom - warm-hearted, essentially harmless entertainment - I hope it doesn't meet a similarly aprupt end!

Sorry. My mistake. Of course, I mean neither of your suggestions, though come to think of it, I find both Mark and David, Williams and Walliams, equally unappealing as actors! "Father Brown" is just so uninteresting to me, my mind was wandering even as I wrote!

Well I hope series 2 moves to the sunday 8pm slot with a bigger budget. Series has promise if the Beeb can stop chucking money at soap operas & reality tv.

While I enjoyed the Father Brown series I began wondering if we could maybe have something a bit more contemporary.
Stick with the cleric amateur detective sub-genre, but make him an imam at an inner city mosque.

Only slightly, It is no worse an idea than some that have been made.
It could be called something like Imam Ibrahim Investigates, the title character could be a former policeman from Iran who was forced to leave for political reasons. Plenty of potential there I think.
I suppose there could be a Rabbi detective or if you want to get away from the Abrahamic faiths you could have a Hindu priest as the main character or maybe for something a bit more obscure have a Tengrist Shaman from Azerbaijan.

This 'Father Brown' is so far removed from Chesterton that a conversion to Islam would be a fairly trivial aspect of the 'adaptation'.

I really enjoyed Father Dowling Investigates which featured the intrepid and streetwise Sister Stevie. Is it controversial to claim that catholics make the best detectives????
