Ask away!
I'll try and answer as many questions as I can.
Please read Rach's host question and answer (Q&A) thread www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mb... and see if she has answered the question already, because I'm not going to 're-invent the wheel' on my first day!

Actually, there's something that I've been wondering for ages but never gotten around to investigating (though it's probably blindingly obvious): how does one quote part of a post without quoting the whole thing? I know it can be done, I've just never figured out how.
That didn't work....try this:
just type in and bracket the word quote between two < > ....then copy and paste the part you wish to comment on, then end by typing the word quote again bracketed this time between </ and >.
so like this blah blah blah (but not zeros!!)

That didn't work either. Was supposed to be illustrating the code using zeros instead of "o"s but it confused it. Give it a try it should then look like this:
blah blah blah

^^ Like that you mean?
If so, you need to copy & paste the original text, then wrap it in quote tags.
You need to use the arrow brackets (on the bottom line of the keyboard), but if I use those to illustrate it, it will show up as a quote, so here's how you do it using round brackets instead:
(quote)This is a quote(/quote)
Substitute arrow brackets for the curly brackets above and it will appear as a quote.
Sorry for jumping in, I know I'm not Peta, but just trying to be helpful for a change.
Hey, it worked! Thanks!

Or you can just tick the "Include original post as quote" box, then preview and delete what you don't need.

Yes! Like that. But it doesn't really matter how you do it, as long as you get your point across.
Wow she is back!!! all we need now is for Lee to come back and then we will be back with the original hosts........
Peta you have been an outside observer to these boards for the last few years, what do you think the changes by Nick Reynolds and the changes since, have they improved the Board? Or was this board better when you used to host before?

Hi Fedster!
Wow she is back!!! all we need now is for Lee to come back and then we will be back with the original hosts........
I haven't really visited the POV boards much since I left, because it somehow felt really weird when I did! I was really busy over at 6 Music and Radio 2 so I just concentrated with getting on with my work over there.
And as for the board now, really hard to say - I haven't had time to get used to it, so it all seems really strange at the moment. I'm still fumbling around to find out which bits have been added or changed and I know it *always* takes me time to get used to using any software that's been changed.
I'm sure it will feel like home again very soon!

Ha, ha, only joking. Thought I'd pop in to say hello to Peta - welcome back to the board!
Good question ToothpickCharlie - if I did would I tell you?
It'd halve my winnings!

Thanks for the welcome, so weird and lovely to be back. I'm off home now, I'm working part-time for a while, but will be back in the morning.
Have a lovely afternoon and evening everyone, see you all tomorrow. x

But excellent questions!

The only problem with that is that it doesn't quote the name of the original poster, just the text of the post (hint hint BBC).

I know but it gives the post number to which you are replying and it doesn't take long to include the poster's name in the reply, does it GaryB007?
Are we going to be able to have multiple threads on programmes when they do not concern the same topic about the programme?.
The last host seemed determined to have this annoying rule that ruined threads by closing threads and putting unrelated ones together ?
Cheers

About to make myself very unpopular, why did they replace the SCD message boards with an unweildy blog?
Can you possibly create an obituary thread, please ?
Then the morbidly challenged can scour the daily "dead lists" and mourn over people they have never met and the rest of us have barely heard of............
Hi Peta,
While we are all making up our 'wish lists', is it possible to show the name of the moderator who has 'triangled' a particular post?
I am sure that if the anonymity was taken away, we may have fewer vexacious triangling by power-crazed people who like to set themselves up as messageboard police or, think a post should be removed because they, personally, don't want it there.

I appreciate where you're coming from, Blue Taz, but I don't think revealing the name of the triangler would do anything but encourage odd attention-seekers and possible stalking. Occasional posts I've seen gave been utterly vile, and I would not want the writer of that to be aware I had referred their post (not that I do that very often anyway).
why is it when i go to the Green Room for off-topic chat theres people make no sence and i find that i have no idea what they are talking about
Hi Cricket,
i can understand your concern about stalking. In that case perhaps it is better to leave the moderation to the Host (perhaps we could have a facility for sending PMs to the Host)
There have been several threads interupted today that would appear to be totally inoffensive yet, just because someone didn't like the topic, they were triangled.
Let's not forget also, that stalking can go both ways. Posts can be targetted just because someone is upset with, or doesn't like, the poster.
I think that remove the anonymity would mean that the triangler would at least have to justify their actions. Even in a court of law, we are allowed to know who is accusing us.

At the moment it is the Tory Party Conference and gay marriage being discussed.

Yes, I've seen this happen both on this board and elsewhere on the BBC. It has made very decent inoffensive posters feel very upset and victimised.
I just wish the mods kept a record of repeat and malicious triangling so that they could detect what to us posters are very obvious and bullying patterns.
So can you tell me then what has this to do with gay marriage or the party conference Message 49, in reply to message 45.

Well without going and reading the thread I would say it appears that the conversation has moved on from the Tory party conference. That's what would be expected on a general chat thread.
So it seems that that the poster called Sparrow has relayed something in a previous post that is good news.
That the poster's beans have grown well and that the great British bake off is on at 8.00 on BBC2 and the poster loves that show.
The poster Sploink has it seems reported a problem with their robot dog and the poster is showing sympathy.
So that really is easy to understand. Would you like me to go and select a post without context from another random thread on this board and ask you to explain it to me?

You're barking up the wrong tree there. The Beeb aren't responsible for the Digital Switchover. It was instigated by the previous Government so they could make loads of cash from the sale of the freed up spectrum. I doubt the current Government will turn down the impending windfall that will result.
BTW, your problem is because you have a marginal signal - one that is only just above the threshold for decent reception. When you get a bit of rain it falls below the threshold and the result is picture and sound breakup. You need a better aerial and maybe cable.

You're quite right; I didn't bother to look it up first, but the fact remains that Timbuktu (being a town in Mali) doesn't have a capital.

Peta what is your Vision for this board, when someone new takes control of something they always want to shake it up and try out new things, what are your aims and objectives going to be? How are you going to improve the BBC Board, posts on the first page are days old, so it is quite evident that it is unpopular, how are you going to reverse this trend?
Are you going to follow the new forum rules draconically and like a jobsworth? ( of course not accusing you of being a jobsworth, far to respect for yourself, just trying to get my point across) , or are you going to be a bit more lax, and let your vast experience of Messageboards do the talking? Hopefully the powers that be have not instructed to be strict and unfair.
Thanks for reading Peta, and i look forward to your reply
