Sparrow , have you overlooked the Subscribe button at the top right?
Nope Guv, but it only occurred to me shortly after posting the above. Haven't tested it myself on a thread that I haven't posted on before

I don't think Shootthemessenger is a newbie at all.

May I just mention at this point, to no one in particular, that creating new accounts to circumvent previous bans is against house rules.

People can come and go from these boards as they please. Some (nay, many)have left recently, and others may pop back to lament at how the boards have declined. Banning may have nothing to do with it.

Why feel the need to include the 'to no-one in particular' blurb when there could be other circumstances you don't know about?

    Just a thought

Just for the sake of experimentation with the new facility, I've tried to subscribe to that 2004 thread (without posting on it) but it's not showing up in My Discussions - unless it's been plonked at the very end, being an extremely whiskery old thread... and it will take me a while to get to my earliest posts smiley - laugh I think I'd better play around with something more recent smiley - erm

Messages 2376 and 2382 - well said smiley - ok

I think you're right, Mal-i tried this myself and the thread (from the tv board, 2004), shows up at the bottom of my list. How typical of me to assume it was a bug on the board initially smiley - tongueincheek

When I tried it on the BBC board, I hit the 'last' button, but it linked to an empty page, saying 'there are no discussions here' or something to that effect. Odd smiley - erm

The penultimate page as I type has exactly 25 posts on it.

    www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mb...

So I assume the software has pre-emptively allocated a next page.

    More cock-up than conspiracy.

Are you consciously trying to goad me.....
    No, of course not.

.....or are you unaware of how arrogant you sound?
    I'd have to disagree.

    Rather than reporting your post.........
    What rule have I broken?

Would you like to discuss that possibility..........
    The possibility of what exactly?

    ........or keep criticising me instead?
What do you mean "keep" criticising you? I criticised you in my message 2371 as you clearly haven't read this thread else you would see Rach - Host's replies.

I think people over-estimate how busy 'Rach' is. Unless a post is reported, I don't think she reads these threads.
    You question me about arrogance!

    Hello,

There are a few issues I would like to talk about that have been raised on this thread.

Firstly, I do read this thread and your comments and where necessary I will investigate ideas or queries on your behalf. However, I am a real person who will sometimes need to seek the advice from across the BBC so I would ask for your patience on issues where I have not responded yet. Chances are I simply don’t know the correct answer yet.

Secondly, please can I ask users to be civil both in queries about the board and also between each other because it helps all involved.

Thirdly, please note I am host of the Points of View messageboards but this does not provide me access to all messageboards in the BBC. Therefore, asking me to update Radio 4’s messageboard is outside my access rights and therefore will require me to seek advice from other areas of the BBC to help with this.

Finally, the Points of View messageboards have not hosted radio discussion for a while now; this is because a lot of radio stations and presenters communicate with their fans via other social networks and blogs. This is why I have linked through to www.bbc.co.uk/iplaye... where you should be able to navigate through to your station of choice.

Also, it doesn’t matter if you’re a “newbie” or an established messageboard user, your opinions and queries are still valid and I will aim to help where I can and the best I can to advise where best to comment on our services.

Please also note, the Points of View television show will soon be on air again so please do keep an eye on the website because your query may be answered by our production team: www.bbc.co.uk/progra....

I also take on board comments on the length of this thread and will be opening a new one very soon which may help with navigation and communication.

    Thank you, Rachael

Thank you for that reply, Rach. I never said there was any rush, or that it couldn't be a job for somebody else. It's just that the link that turns up when you Google 'Radio 4 message boards' currently provides no link to any alternative, and no explanation why the BBC should just end them like that, while still retaining a central board for TV discussion (rather than telling viewers to go to the individual BBC channel sites and have discussions there instead).

I still think my query was civil, and that it was a reasonable observation to make that you don't read everything that isn't flagged up, because I gather this isn't your only job. I can be patient, I just don't think we've been presented with a credible alternative to the old boards yet.
Thank you for listening to my advice, it's worth me explaining that I am your host full-time so please do offer suggestions where relevant and I will aim to look into them. As although I can't read everything that's written I do check-up on this thread to see if there's any issues I can help answer.

With regards to this query, I have asked my management for further advice on the issue you raised and I am working on this with them, when I know more I will let you know.

I am also working on a new thread, as I appreciate this one has become very long.

    Thank you, Rach

    Hello,

As this has become quite a long thread, I have opened a new Board Issues thread for you to share your issues with the Points of View boards.

Please refer any comments, queries or issues to this new thread: www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mb...

Thank you for your comments here, Rach (Host)
