Sarah,

I am wondering if you can furnish us with the figures for visitors to the POV Messageboards BEFORE the "improvements" and SINCE the "improvements" were implimented.

Nick says that there is a drop, but so far hasn't given us the actual figures.

When we asked about figures in the past, Rowan had apparantly provided them for Nick, so, it seems logical to ask the new Host to provide the figures as Nick has said in the past that he doesn't know how to access them.

Thank you
niclaramartin

Bear in mind also that the volume of posting will be affected by the lengthy threads which only exist to complain about the BBC's efforts in this area.

IMHO the quality of posting is down also. Really healthy debate on a range of issues used to be possible on BBC boards; this is largely remaindered to chit chat about trivia and one liners. This must have fed through to POV.

Absolutely. It was one of the reasons why I rarely post now, together with the non-BBC programme rule, which highlighted how little BBC I actually watch now.

I miss some of the old posters and some of the really strongly held opinions (I had some ding-dong battles with some, and yet we always seemed to walk away respecting the others viewpoint - even if THEY were wrongwinkeye). There was some really amazing discussions of true intelligence from people with a huge depth of knowledge of their subject. I don't think Nick can be blamed entirely for the loss of those posters as BBC has tweaked and tweaked the boards so that they are almost unrecognisable and certainly not the welcoming place it once was.

Sarah,

Could you maybe get back to me next week with those figures?

Thanks
niclaramartin

We are also ingesting data from LiveStats, the BBC's own real-time indicator of traffic.

This is part of the blog about the launch of Shownar - worth reading and drawing your own conclusions.

If the BBC has a real-time facility for collating traffic figure, why despite numerous requests has the question above and elsewhere remained unanswered?

Look forward to the detailed results ok

Faye

My daughter is able to check how many hits our website has had, which country those searchers are looking from and it also displays graphs and various breakdowns of figures. It seems unbelievable that BBC (Nick) seems to find it difficult to access those figures you have been asking for, readily.

Nippie

Everything's great thanks. Mind, I've been fair peching with this hot weather.

And, yes, Nick did direct us back to the boards.........and Sarah, our host would be the obvious one to furnish the figures. I haven't seen the figures published on his blog, but he has said in the past that it was Rowan who gave him the figures.

Hi niclara, nice to see you posting on here again. Such facilities were available a decade ago too, we used to get comprehensive stats for our website.

Perhaps someone should do a flow diagram of the navigation to get answers from the BBC since November, perhaps worthy of an episode of Horizon.

Hi Faye

I've been popping back occasionally to have a look and see what is going on, on the boards, and the last few days just tirped me enough to make me want to post a few times.

I'm really struggling to find threads which interest me enough to want to post, but I really would like to know what the state of the boards are AFTER the improvements. Nick has never been the most forthcoming with answers so perhaps Sarah Our Host, WILL find the figures.

Hello Curmy

Hope you guys have all been well since I went AWOL.

I hope Sarah will be able to provide the figures Faye was asking for. The last time we got the figures, we waited ages, and it was Rowan who gave them to Nick, and then Nick put them in his blog for us. I seem to remember that he said he didn't know how to access the figures, so I think he was quite thankful that Rowan could.

Sarah

Hope you have had a nice weekend, and when you get into work on Monday, you could maybe ferret out the figures Faye had been asking for, which is the reason for THIS thread.

Thanks
niclaramartin

I'm not sure WHY you are talking to Nick?

1. He has told us repeatedly that he has NOTHING to add to our discussions regarding the POV Boards.
2. He has told us that he no longer is involved with the POV Boards
3. He has told us to discuss the POV boards ON the POV boards, and NOT on HIS blogs.

and most importantly, the last time we asked for figures, he made a big song and dance about not knowing how to access them, and that when he DID eventually post them, Rowan had provided them.

Are you NOW telling us that Nick IS still connected to THESE boards? That Nick is STILL making decisions about THESE boards, and that you NEED to speak to Nick BEFORE you, as the Host can publish figures which our previous Host was able to access, FOR Nick, BEFORE he told us he had NOTHING more to add to the debate.

He can't have it both ways. IF he IS still making ANY decisions about these boards then he should also STILL be answering OUR questions. IF he is NOT connected to these boards any more, then WHY are you still "discussing" anything with him?

I look forward SOON, to the figures as requested on several occasions by several posters.

Sorry to be so nippie, but, Nick's long reach rankles when he constantly acts like the Scarlet Pimpernel when WE want to talk to him. Distancing himself from the boards when it suits him, BUT, having you discussing our questions with him regarding tangible proof of lower traffic figures SINCE his "improvements".
