One reason I always liked Eggheads was the lack of an audience and their applause. However, in the current new series in every episode so far the contestants have taken to applauding themselves every time they get a question right. In previous series this only happened on rare occasions .

I believe they are being encouraged to do this by the producer and I find it most annoying.

    Has anyone else noticed this?

Maybe I should have said not lacking in confidence when Eggheads are asked if they know the answer when contestants get a question wrong. Very quick to shout it out.

It's become quite common for people to applaud themselves on all sorts of programmes. When winning or doing well, the audience used to applaud and the 'applaudee' would stand there looking modest. Now, the person joins in, and is therefore clapping himself.

I don't recall any instance of this happening without a prior invitation from the compere.

auto applauding and indiscriminate ovating whilst standing.... two of the things I hate about the way things are going on television shows.
