Hi everyone - I think that some of you have heard whispers about me over on the blogs and here I am, your new host for the TV board. I thought I'd start by introducing myself - no, no, don't go! I'll keep it short I promise. Many years ago I was a BBC message board moderator, after which I was the community producer for BBC Collective (now sadly not with us) where I was very fond of the bunch of folk who called it home. I've got a new role now which involves helping to oversee various community and social media activities, which is how I've ended up here with you guys. I don't really start until sometime in January but I thought I'd say hi now and start popping round as much as I can for the time being. I'm certainly not planning to drive your topics, but it sounds like a friendly BBC face round here might not be unwelcome.
Having read some of the things which you took the time to add to Nick's recent blog posts it sounds like you've experienced some inconsistencies in moderation, that there are debates about what's off topic on this board, and what's not, as well as some disruptive behaviour. I'm really hoping that I'll be able to help sort some of these things out. * If you experience an unfair moderation decision then please take a minute to reply to it so that it's flagged up and dealt with. Sometimes if you reply to something off topic your post will be removed too, it doesn't necessarily mean you're being punished or anything, it's just so that the boards make sense and remain tidy. * It sounds like there's a debate about whether non-BBC programmes can be discussed here. What about trying out one thread for generally off topic discussion and seeing if we can make all the other threads BBC related? I don't work for Points of View, but they certainly do cover just BBC programmes, so it seems to follow that we do that here too. Shall we give that a go and see how it works out? * Personally when people are disruptive I've found that the most effective thing for everyone to do is ignore them completely on the boards and alert their behaviour to the mods - that way they get pretty bored pretty quickly. But please let me know if you suspect that anyone's specifically out to upset things round here and I'll see what I can do.
In the mean time please be patient while I find my feet - and don't think I've abandoned you when I take off a couple of weeks for Christmas at the end of next week. And for your info, I love Family Guy at any time of day, I've recently enjoyed the Stalin programmes on 2 (although missed last night's one) and I certainly don't know as much about BBC telly as you guys do so I'm hoping to pick up a few viewing hints from you.
It's very nice to meet all of your acquaintances - Rowan

Good luck Rowan - you're going to need it! Just let us have a laugh on a few threads, that'll keep most of us reasonably happy. (IMO of course)

Welcome to the madhouse, Rowan! Hope you enjoy your time on here.
Personally, I think you'll struggle to keep discussions to a BBC only remit. I know that previously the Hosts have banned threads about Big Brother and that's a good thing.
I think you'll be better off trying to keep things generally TV related and controlling multiple threads being opened on the same topic.

Welcome, Rowan. I hope you have a long and happy stay here.
If you do see us wandering off topic, could you give us a gentle nudge in the right direction?
You're a Family Guy fan? Excellent. I'd write more but I have to go and deal with the evil monkey in my closet...

Hi Rowan Welcome to the madhouse. You seem to understand our concerns so hopefully things might achieve some consistancy & normality (tho' I'm not holding out much hope for normality )

Welcome Rowan, you have endeared yourself to me by mentioning Family Guy, so you're a good egg in my book.
We do like a laugh on these boards, and some threads do get kinda silly, but a bit of leway on these would be appreciated.
Anyhoo, good luck, and I hope you enjoy this role.

Who's going to lead?

Thu, 11 Dec 2008 10:07 GMT, in reply to rowan host in message 1 Have they told you about the unwritten rules, Rowan? You know that there are no Big Brother threads, no discussion of individual films (there's a Films on Television thread for those) and that the host has to buy drinks and cream cakes for everyone on Fridays? Peta and Lee always did.
