    Dear Demet,

I'm afraid that I don't know him. It's the first time I hear his name. One of the sites you posted, it says "Gillett is credited with discovering Dire Straits in 1976 after playing Sultans of Swing from their demo tape on his Radio London show Honky Tonk."

I'm a fan of Dire Straits. Their sound is different from all other groups. Their guitarist, Mark Knopfler, is a good player. He has played with Eric Clapton and their guitar works blended well.

My condolence to the greatest broadcaster.

    Nori

Tatsunori, Dire Straits is new for me. smiley - doh When I have enough time, I'll try listening to it.

Actually, I am doing more than one thing at the moment. Both writing and listening at the moment. I am not good at doing so in this way... smiley - doh

Here it is what I have seen:

    Hello Alex,

You ask me at another thread which is below:

Can you listen as well to the Charlie Gillett's "World of Music" programmes?

No, I have not listened to it after his farewell. I even did not know the programme is still on with another DJ.

    See you later,

No, I have not listened to it after his farewell. I even did not know the programme is still on with another DJ.  It was for some time, but not anymore.... At least on the World Service. If you happen to find it on another BBC channel (like that "Something Understood"), please let me know!

By the way, have you ever heard about Alistair Cooke?

    Hi, Demet.

I've recorded the first episode of "The Black Book". At the end of it they casted their usual BBC advertising. Did you hear it? It was about Alistair Cooke! I've been listening to his "Letters From America" for many years!

    www.bbc.co.uk/search...

As you can see, they are going to put Alistair's archive online!

    www.bbc.co.uk/news/e...

But I've heard that they mentioned just about 100 programmes (something like for two years). I'm sure I heard more programmes and I think I have some recordings that they won't put online....

So.... so far I can't quit my bloody "job".... smiley - biggrin

By the way, every Alistair's letter was a very witty and clever essay or pamphlet....

Now I am not able to read anything...even one sentences.... smiley - sadface Anyway.... I have to go and hit the day. As tomorrow is another day and I must find the energy otherwise..... Thursdays and Fridays are especially the busiest days at work....

See you later, then! smiley - ok

    Hello Dear Alex,

I have tried to have a look at the link you gave. I am listening a programme at the moment whose guest is A. Cooke. What I have just noticed that the way he spoke was British English that made me curious to know why.... I discovered that he was born in England.....

I have gotten next to nothing what I am listening at te moment but I try to understand...
Well I am also not fine and feel a bit down this week and luckily my spanish course is cancelled for this week.

    Anyway....

I see that our German friend Ann posted a message here and saying:

It's sad, that he already had left us.

It is really sad that she already left us without saying goodbye. smiley - sadface
May she rest in peace. smiley - magic

    Take care of yourself, Alex.

    Demet
