What bandwidths are now used in the UK for Radio3 Listen Live FlashPlayer streams, as Default iPlayer streams.
I was under the impression it was 128 or 192Kbps in the UK with 48kbps being available overseas. I did notice this at an earlier date and may have commented in another thread.
I currently seem to see three options. I am guessing one is wrong either because
- the display is wrong,
- or because the wrong stream is showing.
What I can get displays as follows:
__ 48 kbps
From the iPlayer page
URL: www.bbc.co.uk/iplaye... {... .bbc.co.uk/iplayer/playlive/bbc_radio_three/]
BBC Media Player v.2.24.18269.19216
bbc_radio_three | 48kbps | aac | AK
__ 128 kbps
From the bbc home page
URL www.bbc.co.uk/iplaye... {... .bbc.co.uk/iplayer/console/radio3/
BBC Media Player v.2.23.18182.20020
bbc_radio_three | 128kbps | aac | AK
_ OR _ 192 kbps
www.bbc.co.uk/iplaye...
BBC Media Player v.2.23.18182.20020
bbc_radio_three | 192kbps | aac | AK
To be truthful on an effectively mono lo-fi computer system, this does not real matter to me, but obviously some users are getting the wrong information and/or the wrong streams and may be disappointed.
I also noted recently that, some overseas users were apparently reporting two bandwidth options on iPlayer Radio, I was under the impression overseas users get only one FlashPlayer bandwidth option.
John
I think the UK low bandwidth and overseas streams were 48kbps and standard streams were either 128 or 192 depending on the station.
Maybe they're going to offer 3 standard bandwidths for stations now.

I wonder if problem is linked with iPlayer Beta v3
I also get
from: beta.bbc.co.uk/iplay...
BBC Media Player v.2.24.18269.19216
bbc_radio_three | 48kbps | aac | AK
OR
BBC Media Player v.2.24.18269.19216
bbc_radio_three | 192kbps | aac | AK
I think I saw 128kbps also from the same URL but did not manage to copy that
Also a possible bug in V3 Beta on my particular setup I do not see the option to change bandwidth if I click the link and open as a console.
If I open as a browser tab I see a longer page and have a scroll bar allowing access to the link to toggle bandwidth.
This may be an oddity of my setup, I am again using a low resolution CRT at present 800 x 600 px
with Win XP pro SP2, FF3.6

Any comments BBC, this appears to be a fault.
There is no point in using the contact form they get ignored and are limited to 350 characters.
I note a user outside the UK is reporting seeing two bandwidth options. Again this may well be a fault.
We Have been told by BBC's Alan Ogilvie that that should not happen.
Latest overseas user with two bandwidth options:

For UK users there are two streams for simulcast Radio 3 on iPlayer - 192kbps AAC-LC, and 48kbps HE-AAC v1
For International users there is only 1 - 48kbps HE-AAC v1
I believe that the playlist for Radio 3 for UK users of iPlayer currently attempts to use Adaptive Bit-rate. But there is not a 128kbps stream for Radio 3 - so it wouldn't physically be possible.
However - the mnemonics used when you right-click on the EMP aren't always accurate.
In this case - there may well be a bug, and this thread has certainly been noted with the iPlayer team.
