The licence has not yet been released, for whatever reason.

When it has been released, you will be able to watch the program.

(Some programs are dowloadable before the release of their licence)

    This is not correct.

Sometimes, the programme is available to watch (stream), therefore the licence is available.. But if you download to iPlayer desktop and then try to play it you get the "licence pending" message.

So you are allowed to download content that you are not allowed to watch? How odd! Does the BBC have a rationale for this?

To obtain the usual 30 day licence for a downloaded program, the download has to be initiated via Internet Explorer (not via alternative browsers).

(It may be that I have overlooked any/all alternative solutions that may have become available for other browsers during the last few months.)

The point is, initiating a download via IE will get the licence at the time of the download and the licence will be of the correct 30 day type.

Downloading to iPD is the only time I use IE - 'cause it works for that purpose.
