What a mess. Like many others I have been unable to download to iplayer desktop, though I did manage a Windows media player download. There does not seem to be an effective uninstall, so I used Control Panel remove program facility. It did not fully uninstall so I was unable to reinstall until I had manually removed all traces of iplayer. I read that one cannot reinstall the old iplayer - so I will just have to manage without - until I het a message or hear that proper debugging has been done.

Personally I have Vista, and was using Desktop 1.5. I have upgraded to 3.0 with no problems. All my programmes remained and the Desktop interface is an improvement on the old Version 1.5 which I was previously using.

Note and Note Well that I never installed Desktop version 2.0 (the Beta) so there were no possible remnants of it from a trial install.

However the new iPlayer site is an abomination.

Of course I spoke too soon, while old programmes downloaded to desktop v1.5 remained, ones newly downloaded straight to v3 have disappeared. The desktop has now disapointed and the iPlayer site remains an affront to usability.

I note that a New Beta desktop is being put forward, perhaps it will work, but past experience indicates otherwise. Which is so sad.

message#118 is a BBC reply. The thread "Desktop problems" was started by the BBC.

I note you say the new site does not work, what particular problems, just the general ones everyone else is complaining about or do you have specific problems.

(I have not checked all other posts, just an ordinary user myself, maybe you have posted other information)

I can't get the upgrade to work, either. The Application Install (bbc_iplayer_desktop_v305) window tells me "The application you opened already exists on this system and is currently running. You must clost the current application before continuing". So I uninstalled the previous version of Download Manager - but this made no difference. Can watch, but can't download. Help please, BBC technicians!

The version I have is numbered 307, it seems Beta testing isn't working at all as I have repeatedly tried to download programs on my Linux machine and I either get a "Download iPlayer" message or a spinning icon with nothing downloading to the hard drive. Last night I stripped everything related from my laptop and tried again, the Adobe Air download took over half an hour and was at a rate of 3k (YES 3k), on my broadband link which is typically 5 to 6 M download speed. WHAT IS GOING ON?
Last night when I tried to comment the messageboard was informing me "This Topic is now closed" for everything I tried as well.

    Hello,

Those of you experiencing problems with BBC iPlayer Desktop should see the thread at www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mb... This is also the best place to comment on the beta and your experience of it.

    Hello Johnbsc,

This sounds like a problem with your machine. We've tested the Beta on Linux and it works. The Adobe Air download comes from the Adobe site.

Slow internet speed may account for the extended time spent looking at the spinner on the badge - although if it never flicks over into being ready this also suggests you have a problem with your connection as the badge cannot retrieve the data it needs.
