    Hi all,

I've been having an unusual buffering issue when using iPlayer in all my browsers (Chrome / FF / IE9).

When watching a program it does the following (in this order):

    1. Buffers for a fraction of a second
    2. Sound continues, but picture stop and get the spinning circle
    3. Picture then goes again, with additional sound resulting in hearing the sound twice as the first sound output plays, then the second.
    4. Eventually the first sound output will stop

To stop it while it's doing it, I have to refresh the page. It does it every minute or so and is becoming very frustrating as I can't watch anything like this! I've recently moved over to downloading the programs onto my desktop and often get 30-50MB/s speeds so I think my connection's ok.

Please help, I'm desperate to watch the F1 but there's no way I can do it in this current situation as I can't watch it in browser and there's no way to download it.

    Hi,
This is most likely caused by your ISP throttling (slowing) your connection to the BBC.

What are the results of iPlayers diagnostics? www.bbc.co.uk/iplaye...

    Who is your ISP?

    Hi Matt,

    Results of the test are:

    Download Speed: 46863kbps
    Stream test 1: 10579kbps
    Stream test 2: 16534kbps
    Stream test 3: 12728kbps

So definitely fast enough I'd think! I'm actually a Uni student in halls, hence the speed as it's through the Uni network.

Those speeds should be fine for iPlayer streaming without problems.

I wonder if the Uni might be throttling iPlayer speeds to avoid losing too much of the network to too many people streaming from iPlayer.

This wouldn't necessarily show in the speed test results.

Does using the lower bandwidth option at the bottom left of the programme page make playback smoother?

No difference on lower bandwidth. I think it must be a connection on my end as ITV Player throws a connection lost message every now and again as well.
