I don't know if its just my computer but BBC iPlayer has stopped working. It was working fine a couple of days ago and now everytime I click on a program nothing comes up, its just blank where the program is ment to be, there's no even a play button. Nothing has changed on my computer over the past few weeks so I don't understand why it has suddenly stopped working

I have been watching BBC iPlayer on internet explorer 8 and my computer is on windows 7.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
    Teagan

    Dear BBC

I have an identical problem to the one mentioned above and I followed the instructions given and emptied my cache- to no avail. I have also tried to do a clean install of iplayer desktop and the curser dissolves into the install button and nothing happens.

I have been running iplayer very successfully for a while now and have only just recently encountered problems of downloads not happening and no streaming possible. I am now rather stuck...

I run Windows Vista and use IE.

    Many Thanks

    Hi Hellyrocks,
Are the download buttons visible at all or are they also missing from the page?

The main web based iPlayer doesn't need iPlayer Desktop to be installed. The website should still work with or without.

It could possibly be a problem with Flash. You could try a clean install of that to see if it helps iplayerhelp.external...

thanks - yes tried clearing cache, reloading flash - in fact everything suggested by posters on this and the TV message board - oh and I switched it on and off again. I have emalied BBC helpdesk as I can watch content by clicking on the programmes through the A-Z or micro site so its the page that is the issue it would seem...

    billystar,

If you clear your cache try not to do it on a BBC webpage that your having trouble with. It will recache the incomplete page and you will go around in circles. Try clearing cache when on something like google where there is very little on the page to be effected.

The iPlayer webpages have an awful lot of extra stuff in them. The "stuff" is javascript actions that build the webpages extra bits - like the carousel/recommendations/morelikethis, the media player, the download buttons etc. All of these actions are common to all the iPlayer Webpages. So if one page doesn't render correctly eg the Media Player window doesn't load properly, and it gets saved in the "cache", then all of the pages will not present the media player window. This is why its important to navigate away before you clear cache.

Iplayer is finally opening OK and I've managed a clean install of desktop including Adobe Air. My streaming speeds have reduced to nothing and the desktop is not downloading at all- reads that it is, but in fact nothing is happening- really frustrating as it has been perfect for such a long time.

    Ideas anyone?

    Hellyrocks

PS. Clearing the cache didn't resolve anything at the time but this evening- after having walked away from the problem for a couple of days, the pages are opening fine so I don't really understand what the problem was.

thanks - I did go away from BBC site as this was mentioned by another poster - it didnt work - thanks for the advice. As I have now worked out I can watch the programmes from the micro site / A-Z it means that I can still watch the programmes which is the main thing - just lost the convenience of access everthing from one page.
    thanks again

What browser and operating system are you using billystar?

It might also be worth trying a different browser. This might fix the problem for you.
