Hi zippy, iPlayer is not an archive facility so only has recent programmes/series on. It's not hard to follow after a while and you can ask as many questions as you like here.
    As for youngsters I'm 51 <rofl>

There are plans for iplayer to become an archive service but for the moment you have seven days after a programme has been broadcast to download it or, if you wish, stream it on the site. If you chose to download it then you have 30 days to watch it (this starts from the moment the download was first put on the site, not when you download it). Some very popular programmes have a series catchup branding which means that the window ends 7 or 30 days after the last programme of the series is shown ( with the rules the same as above). Now though this is very limited with the BBC Trust only allowing a certain number of programmes to be on seires catchup at once. The easiest way to find a programme is in the big search box at the top - if this returns no results then the programme is (sadly) not there anymore. Some programmes never get put on iplayer because of rights issues.
If you have a query it is always best to search here (iplayerhelp.external... first. I wish you luck using iplayer and hope you enjoy it and it is useful to you! :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

Also, if you want to download programmes there is a guide on how to do it here (iplayerhelp.external... and here (iplayerhelp.external...

    Enjoy watching and downloading!!!!

Yes, at hte moment we can't offer archived content, unlike services such as Channel 4 On Demand or ITV's catch-up service (iTVPlayer, no idea where they got the inspiration for...). But if this changes in the future you can be certain to hear about it.

In the mean time BBC Archive www.bbc.co.uk/archiv... highlights classic material (but not usually programmes) from the BBC collection.
