Any video plays for few secs only then a circle of moving dots interrupts - I think this is called "buffering", then I get a few more seconds play then more buffering etc. Any suggestions to overcome this would be v welcome. My ISP provider is Talktalk and I am quite a way from the exchange with low download speeds. Could this be the problem and can I do anything about it?

It could be as you need good download speeds. However, I have this problem recently and I can tell you it's not my problem. I run a check and I am getting near to my full adsl max 8mb.

I suspect the BBC cannot stream it out fast enough, at least in my case. When iPlayer first came out it was fine, well, it was when they supported Linux (which I am). I even sent a message to the BBC to suggest they have a High Quality option. But that recent addition is useless now - because they can't feed us all quick enough. I'm going to start a thread about this crappy service.

Which does not indicate at all if your ISP is doing any form of traffic shaping which could be causing your problems.

You don't mention who that is btw, nor much else like the router you are using.

Have you tried taking your computer round to a friends who has iPlayer working on his connection OK and trying it there?

The past week has seen streaming almost unusable. BEEB seems to be using edgefcs.net to stream which is a change from a few weeks ago I think. Works well at night, but I suspect the popularity of streaming is using up all the available bandidth.
