I have been using the iplayer since the public beta started with no problems on my XP SP2 pc with no problems......

    Until Now.....

All of a sudden over the weekend my iPlayer Library has refused to start and IE thinks that the software is not installed.

I have tried the following without success.

    1.) Reinstalled iPlayer
2.) Checked that the Kontiki Service is started (which it is)
3.) Checked that the kontiki service is enabled in IE (which it is)
4.) Checked that the kontiki addon is enabled in IE (Which is is NOT)

That do you suggest that i do to fix my iplayer?

    Thanks
    chris

This still isn't working! I have also tried a few more things to resolve this.

1.) Uninstalled and used the kclean.exe utility, then reinstalled (Didn't fix the issue).
2.) I found the thread that details about the required security settings within Internet Explorer's Internet Options.

Please can one of the bbc tech people help with this?

Is there any logging or debug options that can be set to help diagnose what is happening?

Is there a way i can manually register the activex controls?

It is just really odd that IE thinks that iplayer is not installed and that the BBC iPlayer Library just does not load. With No error messages or anything.

    Thanks
    Chris

I have found that I have exactly the same problem. Not used iplayer for a few weeks, but now the Library won't open and IE thinks that iplayer is not installed.

    Can someone please help?

    Hello all,

Sorry to hear of your problems, can you please say if you are using a security program such as Norton?

This thread may help www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mb... if not, please see www.bbc.co.uk/iplaye... in case you have been updated and your security settings changed.

    Jon,

I have tried all of you suggestions without any success.

Are there any debug options or logging that I can turn on that might suggest an issue?

If there isn't, It might be a good idea to add that as an option to the next release.

    thanks
    chris

I've had exactly the same download problems since the weekend. Surely this is more than coincidence.

I've uninstalled the library, but now when I try to install it again, I get prompted for my user and password 3 times and then get the follwing message "Authorization Required
This server could not verify that you are authorized to access the document requested. Either you supplied the wrong credentials (e.g., bad password), or your browser doesn't understand how to supply the credentials required."

Bizarrely after uninstalling the library, I can now download programs onto my PC even though I have no library application to view them in.

I have a solution to my iPlayer Library not loading and the downloading of tv from the website.

To resolve the issue i deleted all the files from C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Kontiki

It did however contain 3 files, and 2 of these were log files. So i am guessing that the only important file to delete was zdata.db,

After looking at the file i think the issue was a corrupt sqlLite database.

So if anybody else has this problem, see if this helps, but backup the files first, just in case it doesn't help and breaks something. Personally i would guess that this file contains DRM licence details for the contents of your library. So deleting the file may stop the contents of your library playing.

I hope this helps if anybody else is having this issue.

    Chris,

You are a genius! I tried your suggestion, and we are back in business. I can now load the iPlayer and things seem back to normal. I am sure that Jonathan and others in the team will be grateful that you have spotted what looks like the solution to a very puzzling problem.

    Thanks again,

Well done. I have been trying for days to resolve this problem. Deleting the files in the \Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Kontiki folder worked first time, did not even need to reboot.
I did stop the kservice and restart it and the zdata.db file was rebuilt..

    Thanks

You are a STAR! Many of us could have thought of checking this, but we didn't. You Did! Many thanks.

Under Vista x64 I am now back to having 4OD and iPlayer both working again - they had worked previously then stopped, and no amount of cleaning up, including with "KClean" addressed this

    Note to BBC ->
    a) Sky seem to have a recent version of KClean (51105) - search for "sky kclean" in google - can the BBC get/document the current version
    b) KClean should surely cleanup this directory also - can you report it to verisign to fix in a later version

Finally of course there's the question as to why a cleanup was needed in the first place.

Note - there are MANY MANY people reporting problems with the player suddenly stopping working etc, taking 100% CPU .... this could fix it for MANY of them. May be worth a higher level announce..

    Good stuff!
