    Hello,

Back in January www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/... we said that we would close the iPlayer message board as part of our Delivering Quality First strategy. Today, I want to let you know that the board will be closed from the end of this month, so that no new posts will be after 5pm on Monday 31st May 2011.

I know that this decision will be disappointing to regular users of the board and I regret this. However, at a time when we are reducing our budget by a quarter it is no longer possible to justify this part of our operation, particularly when it replicates similar services offered elsewhere, for example www.radioandtelly.co... www.webuser.co.uk/fo... and www.digitalspy.co.uk.... In addition, one of our most active members, Matt, has set up www.catchupsupport.c... and we hope that a similar community will develop there.

When the board was first set up it was the only way that we could offer help to iPlayer users collectively, and it quickly became a valuable user to user support system. However, since those days we have improved the help we offer to users in many ways. There is the searchable iPlayer Help site at iplayerhelp.external... which in the majority of cases is able to answer your questions. When you do need to contact us through it, the system gathers as much relevant information as possible for diagnostics, something that the board isn't good at.

We also have the BBC Internet Blog www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/... which has in-depth postings by BBC execs and product owners. Finally, we are working on new features to improve the messaging around delays and problems, and these will become available in due course.

Once again we'd like to thank everyone who has contributed to one of BBC Online's most lively boards, and particularly to those who helped us out in the early days.

    Jonathan

In addition, the help site also has an FAQ of any current programme issues we are investigating:

Will the site remain as read-only as there is a lot of useful information which is difficult to find elsewhere?

    Hello John,

Yes it will be available for viewing. If there is anything you think that is useful but is buried away on the board or not in the FAQs let me know and I'll see what we can do.

Anyone else get the irony in that?

In addition to the other messageboards I mentioned, user JoeChip says that Reciva internet radio users may want to visit recivarefuge.net/for...
