    after an MS prompt to upgrade, I installed IE 8.

    You can always restore your Windows system to the previous IE version. Watch/Listen and then upgrade when your programme list is empty.

    I just can't let this;

    Download Manager was terrific; simple and effective.

    Pass without comment! ;-)

    That is just not true, not for me, not for many other users. A look through earlier postings here shows Download Manager was a big headache for many people.

    I was very pleased the day I was able to finally delete all trace of Download Manager from my system!

    <ok>

    Correct reply! Kontiki was horrible and now we have a simple direct download system. But few people realise it.

    Agree absolutely. Using widows XP and Linux Ubuntu on admitedly not very fast PC the programmes are well nigh unwatchable - no they are unwatchable

    Ok as someone said read all the posts - i have done and surely it is clear that this "upgrade" is all a bit of a mess. Is anyone at the BBC doing anything about it? Could they post some reply/advice/information?

    What's your problem Scotty
    Surely as a member of a starship <rocket>crew you know to post a full diagnosis of the situation. So beam along to the software issues section , make your own topic and don't forget to answer the questions and add anything else you can think of that can't be sorted using your extraordinary skills as a Starfleet chief engineer.;)

    Now repeat after me, Aye Capt.

    Hope you don't mind a bit of fun <laugh>

    Not much choice around these parts! <evilgrin> <ok>

    Serious point though <friedegg> .. Didn't you mean to direct to <tit>R for an answer to a "software issue"..?

    <whistle>

    <goodluck>

    Hey Scotty

    Whilst your at it check the phasers and torpedoes, just in case we come across some aliens that look like squirrels<aliensmile> hoofing it in a <ufo>out of here.

    Red Alert

    Actually red squirrels must wear red shirts. In which case we wont be needing the phasers, they're dead already <laugh>

    So far with Desktop - I can download programmes (provided I turn off my anti-virus first) to Desktop, but can't play them; I can download programmes to Windows Media Player, but when playing a programme back I first have to go online and wait for the 'media usage rights' to be acquired for each programme i want to watch and it looks as though, rather than having 28 days to look at a programme I have to acquire those 'rights' within 7days otherwise the system refuses to play the programme as happened when i tried to watch the last programme of the Wainwright series.
    Anybody have any useful suggestions as to how I can watch iPlayer material - I have already spoken to iPlayer Help twice so far with not much success. Think the BBC should re-release Download Manager again for people such as me whose system (up-to date as it is) is Desktop unfriendly.

    Hi Desktopnogood,

    When downloading WMP, use Internet Explorer as the system should then automatically download usage rights. iplayerhelp.external...

    We are looking into improving this.
