For a few days now can't get Radio 2 online here in Berlin, Germany. But no problems with 1,3,4 etc.

Anyone else having problems with 2?

    Any suggestions?

    Hi ITD
You will need to give more information, but if you think it may be a BBC problem you must also use the contact form:
    iplayerhelp.external...

You could also read some of the other threads, which may be related in this Radio section. If you have a Windows computer try the Windows stream. (I am guessing you have problems with a default Listen Live sttream, the URL and right click information would help, as would diagnostics results)

    _ Overseas Radio Problems_
Just some background info for anyone new to this section

The BBC itself could have problems:

The BBC has reported, this year, problems with Content Delivery Network, (www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mb... and an intermittent encoder (www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mb... problem. Both these problems apparently mainly or only affecting Radio users outside the UK.
Problems are not often reported by UK users, or if they are they get fixed fairly quickly.

There are some long threads and very many short ones, question is are we as messageboard users seeing these encoder/CDN problems, or merely a random set of problems that we choose to falsely attribute to the above.

The BBC does only occasionally comment on what is happening. and sometimes writes faqs about problems. Understandably, they consider, it makes more sense to spend time fixing problems than talking about them. The faq about Radio 4 problems has been modified a few times, since problems were reported in December 2009 and a faq has been there most of the time, and still now says under active investigation two months later. (iplayerhelp.external....

    _ Lack of Information_
Part of the problem is many posts do not have the expected information, only a general complaint with only vague details, and obviously board users do not know how many contact forms the BBC is getting. (contact forms encourage users to give more information, and BBC advice is they must be used www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mb... )

Neither do we know what other data the BBC may have, although the BBC did mention that distortion can not easily be detected automatically. Some users have bandwidth problems, some report distortion problems. Of course some bandwidth problems may be caused by problems entirely outside of the BBC's (or its "partners") control.

I know you do not want the problem to continue, but if it does others may post in the same thread and the BBC will no doubt then comment, and/or fix the problem

Its the same here in Bremen. Radio 4 was also affected on Thursday and Friday but is now available. I contacted the BBC via the contacts section but have as yet heard nothing. The message I get on the iPlayer is insufficient bandwidth.

Same problem here in Italy, only Radio 2 has problems, all other stations are fine. I contacted the BBC helpdesk via email - they told me to clear my browser's cache! The lack of bandwidh message is a strange one as it is obviously not the case.

    My suggestions are
    1) clear browser cache (iplayerhelp.external... not whilst on a BBC related site, does it help ?
(it may, especially if BBC had a problem and fixed it, or if you had a problem yourself, you said it was 'obviously not the case' you did not say whether you actually tried to clear cache)

    2) check iPlayer diagnostics & post all 5 results with your reply.

    3) Confirm which URL you are using,
and the TwoLineDisplay right click information withe the right click error message information (assuming default iPlayer stream)

    4) can you say who your ISP is and what the advertised <evilgrin>mythical bandwidth speed is

    5) what is the Ticket number on the contact reply email

    6) give all the standard information (see www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mb... "Unable to listen to Radio programmes")

    7) after posting that information, and confirming other BBC radio iPlayer stations are still working, you could consider sending off a contact form again, it may be worth mentioning this thread in your next contact, the BBC then have a chance to see others may have a similar problem, and to know whether cache clearing worked for you in this instance

You may also be interested in reading these two BBC posts (and the related threads)::

No Radio 4 live abroad - AGAIN! www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mb... { msg #8 is additional BBC advice about checking bandwidth etc

I have the same problem with radio 2, I'm also in Germany. All other BBC radio stations are working and the message displayed says that I have insufficient bandwidth, but when I try using the lower bandwidth version it still does not work. Very frustrating!!

    Hi Paula
you could try following suggestions along the lines of my last post , contact forms are more likely to be of use to the bbc than a vague post on the messageboard,
did you use a contact form ?

What exactly is the error message you get, and which URLs are you actually using etc etc

Thanks to John for his post. ;-)

An update - I previously mentioned that I had noted that there was clearly a problem with the flow of feedback we are getting (or - not getting - as it seems to be). An update: I had a meeting with the help desk this week, and we have identified *several* places where things can be improved. When I know more I will post again.

For a start, I've assisted them to be able to get more information from people commenting they either have a message saying 'insufficient bandwidth' or have serious re-buffering problems. I would expect this to start rolling out the the agents some time in the next couple of weeks.

We also reviewed the form used for submissions, and identified some quick fixes - again I hope they will be able to integrate this soon. It should allow us to get feedback coming through the correct channels.

Hello all...I can now access Radio 2 live by going directly via Real Player...(These steps are for a Mac)
    1: Open Real Player
2: On toolbar go to "Window"
3: Drop down and click on Radio. You should get the following site .....uk.real.com/music/ra...
    4: Click on Radio 2

You can get realplayer streams direct from the BBC also, but they cease entirely soon. (The BBC used the streams extensively as default iPlayer streams)

I can use bbc.co.uk/radio/list... { R2 ListenLive RealPlayer stream]directly in my browser, or by pasting it into RealPlayer console.

I very much doubt RealPlayer will be transcoding BBC streams into RealPlayer when the BBC streams cease,, or do you know otherwise.

I don't believe that it is just Germany having problems, I live in the Netherlands and have had the same problem now for over 2 weeks, namely insufficient bandwidth, I can use either lower or normal, my ex husband however who also lives here has the same problem and has a greater or higher bandwidth. He is also a systems manager for a local school so knows something about computers etc and has suggested it is a problem with BBC transmitting.

    Hi Anne,
Have you read other messages in this thread such as my post number #7 www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mb...
    and the BBC post msg#10

    More information is always helpful.
    Alternative streams may be available.
(we are not certain which ones you are using as you do not give urls )

    Have you
    - used contact forms as the BBC recommends in cases where you suspect a BBC problem?
    - tried the BBC diagnostics ?

If you are using iPlayers default flash player streams what is the:
-Two Line Display right click information ?
    - with any additional error message information ?

Note this problem now has a faq with its own RSS feed see:
" Why do I get the message insufficient bandwidth when trying to listen to BBC
    Radio 2 outside the UK?
    03 March 2010 11:36 [ iplayerhelp.external... ] "

users are seeing a message, which states insufficient bandwidth. This problem is under active investigation ... . Please try clearing your cache .... [iplayerhelp.external... & see iplayerhelp.external...]

Note the FAQ, apparently, has its own individual RSS feed so you may be able to get updates without getting all the other faq revisions at the same time. (note couple of R2 posts also in thread:www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mb... )
