Where is the first episode of the Killing? All the others are there and I thought we had till the end of the series to watch them. I'm up to date myself but encouraging friends to watch and they're complaining to me that the first episode isn't there! LUND, MAYER, THIAS, TROALS!!!

    Hi,
I think the first episodes of this might be getting hit by the limit on the number of episodes that can be available for a series.

Unless it's changed, I think there's a limit of 14 episodes of a series stacked on iPlayer at any one time.

If that's still the case, the first episodes will start falling off iPlayer as the series progresses.

    Hi balloncake,

Matt is correct, the first episode of The Killing has disappearing off iPlayer as the series contains more episodes than the limit imposed on us by the BBC trust.

The actual limit is 13 episodes. The most recent episode of The Killing, on iPlayer, is episode 14 so episode 1 has dropped off.

Apologies for any inconvenience that this has caused you.

    Thanks

So it isn't actually true that the episodes will remain on iPlayer for another twenty-something days? Could you please change the details to reflect this? I was gutted - though I had almost a month to watch ep 1 but it had disappeared by the time I got around to watching it.

Thankfully, the catchup at the beginning of each episode is quite detailed so missing the first couple of episodes wouldn't be the end of the world.

    It's not a fault.

It's a rule that the BBC Trust have set.

You might believe both of your comments to be true, but the second doesn't support the first. To me it describes a fault of imagination on behalf of the BBC Trust. Presumably other factors are at play, all I know is that I've just been hit by the hype, and right now would be forwarding a link to those I love most to come and start watching this series on the BBC, if it was still there to be watched. Can anyone advise somewhere else I could find it? Or maybe just something else to watch that doesn't disappear

This is definitely a very annoying lack of advance notice, given that the episode listings on iPlayer say 'Series catch up' when that's now evidently NOT the case due to the 'rule' of 13 stacked episodes only. It was only via the recent media coverage about BBC4's 'great' commissioning that I was drawn to watch The Killing only to find that it's too late as Episode 1 isn't there! There must be SO many instances where a new 'never before heard of' series begins and only later during the run gets a following through word of mouth and then media attention - surely the BBC Trust can recognise a no doubt unintentional disadvantage of its decision re stacking in this instance and surely a change/exception could be made?! After all, the BBC4 is getting great coverage out of the fact the series is getting shown - but has inadvertently limited the number of people who can now watch it!

I agree it's a strange set up that means you can't actually catch up with the series as advertised. Personally I thought it was a ploy to "encourage" those who'd missed out to buy a DVD from the BBC shop once the series has ended! Didn't know about the 13 limit.

However, you can find all the episodes on itunes for a fee...

    @Aaron iplayer team

You could have just changed the episodes to 10 2 hour episodes to avoid this problem. Then late converts could have caught up. The apparent lack of desire at the BBC to promote this series is astonising!

    Aaron
Is there nothing you can do to change this?

    I cannot believe its impossible.

Come on....let's not pander to the Daily Mail-reading BBC bashers!!

    Can you show some flexibility?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Phil,
The BBC would possibly need to obtain extra rights to do this and the BBC Trust would also have to agree to it.
