Still down this morning - Sunday 10/10/10, smiley - sadface

No indications on the Sony website that they are working on it or even aware of the problem. (No date on the iPlayer bulletin linked above either so hopefully it does relate to the current issue!)

Sunday pm - I have a Sony BDPS370 and was using BBC iplayer up until 8th Oct, but now it is down. Thanks to those who have contributed - great to know that it is not our unit or connection that has failed.

(Sony BDP-S370, fully updated, wireless dongle to BT Home Hub)

The BBC iPlayer service on my 370 has now been down for 48 hours and counting, to my personal knowledge.

All the other Internet options on it work fine (or at least, the large sample I have tried), so I'd reckon this a BBC issue.

It might just be a Sony issue - I know my first ever digital Sony TV was wrong-footed by all the digital channel shuffling going on, and it turned out Sony hadn't read the specs properly - and this might be what's happening here.

But even that would mean the BBC had changed something. Which they ought to know about and comment on.

It's certainly a specific issue though - I got the program we wanted downloaded to my laptop via BBC iPlayer in my browser, and plugged that into the TV and watched it OK.

So it looks like my ISP isn't at fault here, and nore is the iPlayer generally.

As someone said above, though, the BBC iPlayer is 24/7 - though I note this forum isn't.

But if the BBC and Sony want their iPlayer collaboration to be taken seriously, rather than just being a fits-where-it-touches gimmick, they have to move a great deal faster on issues like this in the future.

Imagine if a transmitter was down for 48 hours without a word being said!

The iplayer stopped working on my Sony BDP-570 last friday (8/10/2010) so it's now been 48 hours downtime! I appreciate that iplayer have now acknowledged the problem, but there is no mention as to when they expect access to return to normal. Is the BBC still friends with Sony? All other internet services are working fine so whats gone wrong?
