I am using Internet Explorer 8 / Windows Vista and when I click on a series or programme I'd like to view all I get is a blank black frame with the title underneath, but no 'player' to click on etc.

    Any ideas why?

    thanks.

Exactly the same here (with XP) - nothing is working at all. Just a empty space where the video should be. What's going on?

    Hi John99

    Probably also helps if you

    - say what does work, are you able to stream bbc iPlayer Radio, or use the 'other downloads' (as you appear to have a windows computer)

    - give a couple of sample urls about programmes that do and do not work

    - give further details of your computer and settup

If you do discuss technical problems, other users typically find the following information useful:

    - The programme name, broadcast station, time and date and BBC iPlayer URL
    - Your browser
    - Your operating system or device
    - Whether it's BBC iPlayer streaming, BBC iPlayer Desktop, or Windows Media Player downloads

This is exactly what I get too. I am using Mozilla Firefox in Windows 7 Home Premium. It was all working perfectly till a few days ago. I can still run the view windows in BBC news. I don't know what's different and I have tried everything I can think of without success. Can anybody help?

If it's still not working in Firefox, could you please try something which I think might help the iPlayer team diagnose the problem?

    1) Open the Error Console: Tools > Error Console
    2) Clear any existing messages by clicking Clear.
    3) Reload the iPlayer page that is not showing the video player.
    4) Copy the error messages from the console by right-clicking each one and then left-clicking Copy.

I think you can safely ignore these ones (most of which I get many duplicates), because they show up for me and the media player shows up for me:

Warning: Error in parsing value for 'filter'. Declaration dropped.
Warning: Unknown property 'zoom'. Declaration dropped.
Warning: Expected declaration but found '*'. Skipped to next declaration.
Warning: Error in parsing value for 'overflow'. Declaration dropped.

So basically any ones other than these might give a pointer as to what's going wrong.

Also, there is an FAQ that has been created on this but it doesn't currently shed any light on this other than to suggest that you do a hard refresh and clear the cache:

Error Console messages follow below ... (as requested)

I can access iPlayer normally in IE using Windows XP, but with Firefox 3.5.5, I have a blank box where the viewing history is normally listed on iPlayer Home page. If I click a programme, I just get an empty black box where the screen shot is normally displayed - and where the 'Play' or 'Resume' button normally goes. The icons to other similar programmes is shown at the bottom of the screen. Also, news clips do not play.

As requested above, I have cleared the 'Error Console' I get the following messages when I log into iPlayer Home (The only thing I have tried, is finding the bbc.co.uk cookie, and deleting the one to do with iPlayer. I have tried to restart iPlayer twice since then but no luck.

    @ Niff74 msg#11

    Just some meandering thoughts.

Have you tried using FF 'safemode' ? (see my post www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mb... )it may help rule out problems
iPlayer runs with FF default theme, and with all the many plugins & extensions disabled, except 'shockwaveflash'. (With all including shockwave flash disabled I get a message to install Flash for obvious reasons when an embeded player is clicked).

have tried, is finding the bbc.co.uk cookie, and deleting the one to do with iPlayer
I do not know but, it may help if you just cleared ALL cookies, including from other sites.

I am using FF3.5.5 with XP pro sp2. I use McAfee security.

Note I do not have problems but I am able to adjust FF settings to deliberatly create possibly similar partial problems to some of your own. I know it is all obvious, but then settings do get changed sometimes.
If I turn off 'load images automatically' I will obviously loose most of the obvious (.jpg)images: Tools->Options->Content [load images automatically] (then has exceptions block/allow for specific pages)

Javascript may be enabled or not at a mouse click and then the page reloaded, so I am able to display the iPlayer home page in adjacent tabs with and without javascript enabled, the popup text options displays under the images for 'tv highlights' when javascript is not enabled, And the side arrow sprite on the carousel disapears.
(None of the five advanced javascript options have an obvious effect.)

If I turn cookies off, I get notes about iPlayers features instead of my personal 'last played' list.

However I only get error messsages similar to 'andrew,,.' mentioned in the error console.

    Just another couple of thoughts
    - you are not somehow getting a mobile or limited graphics version of the page are you. Maybe a screen shot would help if the page layout remains very unusual rather than just missing a few elements. How does the page compare to the IE display; & do they have exactly same url.
    - we do not know exactly what your system does & does not do, will it stream if you click on a programmes url instead of using the iPlayer home page, ie is the fault merely the home page (I can even play top gear following one of the links created in your message about errors).

Very similar problem: like the bank screen issue in the FAQ when trying to stream anything from BBC iplayer.
As suggested, I removed Flash (completely) and rebooted, downloaded Flash for a clean install.
Still the same blank screen - i.e. no streaming. Downloading and then playing works. I'm stuck for ideas?

I hope you solved problem, I only just noticed the old post, but thought I would reply in case you are patiently waiting.

Reinstalling Desktop & Flash are usual suggested cures. Only other general advice I can think of is to check security software settings and maybe consider disabling all security temporarily.

    Does radio stream ok ?

Please confirm you are trying to stream Tv programmes, and give some example urls of very recent ones that do not stream.

As I notice you have a windows system do the windows downloads from iPlayer work ok for you. ( iplayerhelp.external... )

It would also be worth using the bbc diagnostics and adobe version test as mentioned elsewhere and posting those results.
