Help! Cannot download AT ALL

Hi, I have not been able to download at all for a couple of days. When I get to the programme I want (doesn't matter which one, happens with every page/programme) all I get is a black screen instead of the main image with the 'play' icon on top of it.

I have taken a screen grab which you can see here

I am allowed to do precisely nothing on that window. I have restarted, cleared cache, nothing works.

I am on a Mac (10.5.8) and generally use latest Firefox, and before you ask, yes I have tried with Safari as well. Exactly same problem.

My internet connection is not the fastest and is rather unreliable (don't ever switch to talktalk) but Channel4 on demand does work so I don't think it's a bandwidth problem. Other downloads are working fine.

I had a problem about a week ago, uninstalled iPlayer and re-installed it and after that it was fine.

I can try and do that again. In the meantime if anyone is having the same problem or can suggest a solution I would be most grateful. Thank you

I have the same problem - black screen for the last couple of days.. Someone suggested Bobotron for radio, for which I am grateful, but TV no good. ITV player is working, and I can watch videos so I think it's a bug in the BBC Iplayer system. Don;t know how I would uninstall and install again.

Hi Jenniffer,

iPlayer Desktop is NOT required for Radio, and other than podcasts Radio does not download it streams.
Likewise TV live programes may be streamed or using 'other downloads' downloaded without using Desktop.

Please give full info

If you do discuss technical problems, other users typically find the following information useful:

- The programme name, broadcast station, time and date and BBC iPlayer URL
- Your browser
- Your operating system or device
- Whether it's BBC iPlayer streaming, BBC iPlayer Desktop, or Windows Media Player downloads

You could also look through searchable help/faq section eg:iplayerhelp.external...

John

Thanks, everyone. I don't use desktop.

I now find that BBC iplayer works with Internet Explorer (which i no longer use in general) but not in Chrome.

I have XP.

Try clearing the cache in Chrome.

A similar problem here - downloads do not begin at all

- iPlayer desktop stays offline

I am using Firefox on a recent Mac, OS 10.5, and did a de-install as described here, but still no go

Sorry, I've sorted it. Automatic network configuration was using a (poxy) proxy PAC file which was blocking it.
