Hi there,
I've got a new W995 on orange, and live streaming works very well.
However, after downloading, which works fine, when I try to play the file, I get an error message "cannot contact trusted provider, contact content provider". I'm guessing it can't securely access the DRM licence server or something.
Could be my router stopping it, the phone, or the BBC. Any ideas?
I am also having trouble with my new W995 on Orange.
I am connected to my home wi-fi which is from BT and I'm using the original white version of the Home Hub.
When I try to view live streaming, I get the message, "Connecting to media server" followed by a few seconds later, "Failed to connect to media server."
I managed to download the first episode of the new series of Top Gear, but on trying to view it, I agree to "unlock now" and then I get a message "Trusted connection could not be established. Please contact content provider."
I understand that 3G functions will not work with Orange, but I am not using 3G - I am trying to use my home wi-fi.
I have tried unlocking the content with wi-fi off and connecting via 3G but I get the same message "Trusted connection could not be established. Please contact content provider."
Grateful for any ideas/tips.

hi, i'm getting the same prob as well, just got w995 phone from carphone warehouse 4 days ago on t mobile, i know these phones are always unlocked on all networks fromt here and have got correct settings from t mobile for wap etc. i am trying to connect to bbci player via both wi fi at home (router is correctly set up to allow connection etc) and have also tried via wap on t mob and i am getting the same message as you guys. it downloads the video but wont play, says content is locked, so i unlock it, and then it gives me the content is not trusted etc etc message. when i try to play radio via bbc iplayer it says downloading media, then says 'failed'. i have contacted t mobile who told me to contact sony ericsson as is not a network issue. i have contacted sony ericsson who state it is a bbci player issue and to contact yourselves. whats the point of having these things on a phone if they don't work? please sort it out!

Same thing here, W995 on orange. Live TV works fine, live i-player also no complaints.
Tried it on several routers but can't play download files, always get "trusted connection could not be established. Please contact content provider" message. I have so far only been able to try connecting through BT ADSL and Virgin Cable, oh and Orange 3G, same results on all three.
Spoke to both Orange and Sony Ericsson, neither have a fix, so hopefully the BBC does or will very soon.

Well, according to the devices supported page:
www.bbc.co.uk/iplaye...
that particular mobile isn't currently supported, so that could be your problem.....

Hi there, I have the W995 on Tmobile, can't even connect via Wifi, all I get is a communication erro, try again etc, spoke to sony ericsson and tmobile, very helpful but said it must be the handset, returned it to carphone warehouse and they exchanged it but its stil the same. Any suggestions would be helpful! All my settings are right, I can connect to various wireless connections no probs, its when I go to browse Im having probs.

This page does list the W995

so I don't think that is the problem......

Another Orange user here.
There are two obstacles in the way....
1 - Orange block video content and some services by default. This is a good thing! It means if your kid gets a mobile, they can't go surfing for porn on it or view over-18 videos etc. If you phone Orange on 150 they will remove this block
At this point, you'll be where I am - you can surf on the Orange Internet, but not via your Wi-Fi
2. I think (though I'm not sure) that Orange configure the system to route all traffic via them, but they wont allow video streaming etc. unless you are connected directly to them... that is, if you are not an Orange Internet Broadband user (I'm on Virgin Media) then their video streaing system blocks the content, and you get stuck on Buffering 00%.
The first episode of the new Top Gear doesn't work for me at all... however it seems to be the only programme that does so I suspect that's actually an issue at the BBC with that one programme.

The iplayer help section now has an entry related to the downloading issue.

I tried as suggested, but no joy so far.
I still haven't been able to stream programmes on my phone using my BT router, but I did manage to stream content at McDonalds on their free wi-fi so I now know that my streaming problem is related to my router.
Browsing the web has found a few people having similar problems with the explanation being that the BT Home Hub blocks RTSP (real time streaming protocol) feeds. Unfortunately, I have not found an answer for how to allow RTSP through the BT homehub. Any tips gratefully received!

thank you Michaelstobo,
It at last feels like some advancing towards a solution. I have some further insight to offer into the w995, Iplayer, home hub issue.
You can get the steaming to work if you perform the following: -
Firstly in Advanced settings on the home hub go to application sharing and then to the DMZ sub menu and allocate the w995 a DMZ address (or however they word it!)
Then turn the home hub firewall off!
With both of these done (and probably restarted home hub for luck) the W995 Will stream Iplayer.
HOWEVER, I don't like the idea of having the firewall off all the time and the phone out in the demilitarised zone on it's own.
I have asked BT, BBC and Sony for advise to no avail (it's someone elses fault or no reply)
I am guessing it will take a firmware upgrade for either the W995 or Home hub or an updated iplayer to fix the problem properly and safely.

Thanks lesock,
I've done as you said and managed to get the live TV streaming through the phone!
One side effect is that my BT hub phone no longer works so I may actually switch the settings back and hope that BBC/BT/ Sony Ericsson or Orange come up with a better option.
Still no joy on watching downloaded programmes, one of the key reasons for getting the phone in the first place.......

I seem to have a different problem to everyone else- I can't see any examples on the message boards of a similar problem.
I can download some programmes: so far Bang goes the Theory, mock the week, QI, Panorama and Would I lie to you.
I have not been able to download any of Rivers, The Street, Top Gear, Dounreay or Coast.
These programmes begin to download, a message comes up saying 'download failed'. It then continues to download until finish, when I get a message 'Download file corrupt. Could not be saved'.
It seems it is only 30minute programmes I am able to download and anything longer fails.
Can you offer any advice please?

Have you got a download limit on your contract?

I have the W995 and have the same problem - I can download the bbc programs to my phone with my wifi connection - however when I try to play them I get firstly you need to unlock to which I say yes and then a trusted connection cannot be established - very annoying especially because it used to work fine. live TV is still good - spoke to Sony ericsson and they seemed to think it is a router problem - but I don't know -

I have a w995 on t-mobile and I can't get live tv or downloading to work via wifi. Do I need to change any particular settings? Just to have the live streaming working would be a start!
I spoke to Sony Ericsson and they said it's a BT problem with my router (RTSP), and BT say it's nothing to do with them and it's my phone settings. T-mobile said they couldn't help. Very frustrating. Shame on Sony Ericson for marketing a phone with a feature that so many people are having problems with - so much for testing. It's not as though BT is some obscure ISP so they could put it down to an isolated incident!

having the same problem, I am on 3, have no issue with streaming, can download video files but when i try to unlock get 'trusted connection could not be established please contact content provider'. i have tried to unlock on 3g and through my home broadband with BE, after agreeing to unlock the handset downloads a few bytes before displaying the said message. any ideas or resolutions, it is frustrating trying to stream as the connection drops taking me back to the start, the download option seems ideal

I've been checking back every so often to see if there is any new advice about the downloading issue.
I was intrigued to see that the answer in the iplayer help section which I posted above has now been removed.
iplayerhelp.external...
I wondered if that was because the problem was now fixed and so did some searching on the web.
It turns out that there is a new version of the W995 software, so I followed the instructions on the Sony website to install the new software using Update Service (Software version R1FA035)
This has added a Facebook app in Messages and when I unplugged my charging cable this morning, the phone prompted me to unplug the charger to save energy!
However, it does not appear to have fixed the downloading problem.
I can still download content over wi-fi, but the 'trusted connection could not be established please contact content provider' message continues to appear whether I am trying to unlock over wi-fi or 3G.
So why no fix in the new software and why remove the answer in Help on the iplayer site?
Has anyone managed to download and unlock the content on their phone?

You did suggest in the earlier of the messages that the bbc faq did not work, maybe that is why it was removed.

Having the same problem,
- Sony Ericsson (SE) W995
- with Virgin mobile service
- Broadband from Timico - > 6Mbps measured on www.thinkbroadband.com (normally get a Excellent /Good signal at 10-15m from router
- using latest software version from SE 1215-7995 R1FA035 090723
Success with wi-fi connection at home
- will stream through iPlayer within 3m radius of router; will keep going at 5-7m if I start steaming close up!
- YouTube works better than iPlayer - always streams close to router and will start at radius 5m+
- success on other wi-fi network clearly varies with bandwidth and distance from router
Failure with playing downloaded files
- system downloads file fine
- video show up on Media Video with License status Locked.
- W995 tries to go online to unlock but then I get the same 'trusted connection could not be established please contact content provider'
I suppose the answer is to know what the connection is that is trying to me made and make it trusted.
NB previous advice on message board was to download first to computer hard drive, play a few seconds on Windows Media Player to unlock file. This worked for me in so far that it unlocked and I could watch a tiny version of the real thing! but then sync to phone was a show stopper; Windows Media player thought that the BBC video wasn't licenced to sync so it wouldn't do it.

Anyone managed to get iplayer downloads working on their W995 yet?
I struggle to believe that 3 months after I got this phone, one of the key features advertised still doesn't work.
