For the past few weeks all programmes downloaded will only play the intro and not the actual programme. Absolutely no idea why this should happen. Does anyone have an idea?

    Thanks

Yes, it's a known problem, that's why we suggest you search help first, it's the first FAQ iplayerhelp.external...

Vista/WMP/Download Manager just seem to raise problem posts on this board all the time, so I would try something else, like using iPlayer Desktop instead...

I've followed all the suggestions on this FAQ but no luck. The most I've managed to get iPlayer to do is acknowledge the programme length to be played after playing the intro. Clicking play at this point just replays the intro.

I've got a brand new Vista PC running IE7 and WMP11. All latest updates via Orange ISP 8Mb broadband connection. I've done the whole DRM reset thing and that's what got me to the stage I decribe above.

Don't know what to do next except watch the blocky stream version which works OK!

And did you try iPlayer Desktop as an alternative way of downloading?

It's a good suggestion to try, but what about the numorous programmes (all part of series' that I have been watching) that I already have downloaded that are timing out in the next few days, that cannot be downloaded again and some aren't even up on the site anymore? Just trying another version of the program isn't really 'solving' the problem.

Well if the issue is a DRM one which it sounds like it may be, then theres not a lot you can do without losing the rights to the programmes you already have.

I might be able to help you. Find the downloaded programmes folder (C:\Users\Public\Videos\My Deliveries\iplayer_live).Right click the video file of the programme you want to watch and find the sharing rights. Make sure that "Everyone" has rights to play and edit the file. You will need to be logged into admin account to do that. Then restart your computer and it should work. Easy when you know how!

PS. I think you click sharing and security on the right click to set the permissions but I am in Windows 7 now and it's different. Basically, make sure everyone can use the file. Also, a message for the BBC. This is the actual fix for this problem so please put it in the help pages, it will save me posting this to desperate people over and over again who are clogging up the messageboard!
