Have listened live to radio 3 for years using windows media player.
Now I am being asked "To play BBC Radio 3 please first install Real Player"......WHY?! ..Real Player is not compatible with my Firefox Browser-- oddly-depending upon the day-when I next attempt to connect to "Listen Live" Radio 3 occasionally works without problem...then on other days its back to "To play BBC Radio 3 please first install Real Player"

Any ideas would be appreciated--many thanks.

Please could you tell me where you are trying to access Radio 3 from?

If in the UK, please could you visit www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/labs - opt into the labs, then try again?

James many thanks indeed-I`m in West London-Carried out your instructions and got onto Radio 3 straight away (No "Real "!)
Its just that I used to simply click on the Radio 3 home page for Listen Live. Will now go via-
    www.bbc.co.uk/iplaye...

    All best

    Many thanks for your feedback.

The "old" method (going via the Radio 3 homepage) will still work just fine: you've just activated access to our new test stream. Feedback on it (does it sound okay? any buffering?) would be welcomed.

working fine -even logged on direct from Radio 3 Home Page BUT-I cant say its "Streaming problems" but I get a very brief cutout of sound--probably no more than a second---2-3 times an hour!

Thanks for letting me know that the non-Real version is working well for you.

Next week, would you mind returning here? I'll be in a position to ask you to run a quick test, which would help me understand the why you're getting those brief cutouts.

And now, I'm happy to say, I can now ask you to run this quick test.

    Could you visit:
    www.bbc.co.uk/iplaye...

... and let me know what the results are? (There will be four numbers)...

    Hi James,

I'm trying from Scotland, and I've been trying to get answers from probably the wrong place (Radio4 blog) for a couple of weeks.

I have problems. Mostly I find it impossible to "listen live" to Radio4. The wee console opens, gives all the signs of working correctly, then the "controls" panel disappears, and I'm left with "transferring data from www.bbc.co.uk....." and a console that just sits there.......

I'm running in Ubuntu linux with firefox. I have Realplayer 11, I have windows media plugin and more, and all are very upto-date.

I can usually get the World Service and other radio channels to "listen live", but occasionally get similar dysfunction. I can only surmise that it's a mismatch between demand and provision.

I shall try the suggestions you make elsewhere in this thread.

    Thanks for being there

    James,

FYI I got drop-outs when i tried R3, and just now when R4 started up (from the R4 homepage "listen live" link), but it seems to have settled at 64k and isn't doing drop-outs at the moment.

Cheers James - opting in to Labs did the trick when I'd been getting repeated "please first install Real Player" messages - after installing Real Player. Does that mean I can now un-install Real Player?

If you only listen to Radio 3, you may now remove RealPlayer.

(Note, though, that our Flash streams are currently in test, and may occasionally break.)

James-apologies for the delay in replying--
    test results-
    Down-6417
    Stream 6659
    Stream-4214
    Stream- 6575
To my eyes that appears ok?
But apart from one day when radio 3 worked perfectly-other days-that recurring that second of silence keeps popping up!
I find the small i-player pop up box sometimes worse!
    Tend to use-www.bbc.co.uk/iplaye....

    Thanks for help
