After fully downloading programmes, and the full time showing up next to the picture, I try to play them and it only plays the TV ident. I have tried uninstalling and re installing, deleting everything, but it does not work. Can anyone help me?

I think you are using BBC iPlayer Download Manager to play the programmes? Well, if this is the case I think there is an help file on it. Don't worrry about that though as whether it works properly after you have followed the painstakingly long guide is hit and miss. I get this problem in Vista Home Premium. Is this your OS? If it is, than it is a good idea to go to settings in download manager and say play content in "my default media player". Then find the folder the programmes are stored in. In vista this would be "C:\Users\Public\Videos\iplayer_live". Then find one of your downloads and right click on it. Go to "Open With..." and "Choose Default Program...". Then select what you would like to play the programme in, I use Media Center. Tick always use selected progrm and now when you click play in the download manager the programme will play n the application you have chosen (like media center). Or you could just sign up to iplayer labs like me and install iplayer desktop which seems to work much better than the download manager did.

I have this exact problem with the IPlayer Desktop. I have tried downloading a couple of programmes and each time the BBC ident plays but the programme is blank with the time counting up. I dug out the files and tried different players, I could play the ident but none of the players could open the main file. (not sure if this is normal).

I've checked Adobe and Flash are up to date and am using windows 2k SP4. Does anyone have a suggestions?

    Hi Ian

Your problem comes down to the fact that BBC iPlayer Desktop doesn't support windows 2000, though adobe air does.

This could be down to the DRM or any other numerous reasons.

You could use the old download manager for windows only

It doesn't list what version of windows you need but will more than likely work on windows 2000

This happened after I added a new user to the computer. (Vista Home Premium). New downloads only played the station ident and stopped. I looked at the actual downloaded files and it turned out that old files were shared but the new ones were not.

Logging in as administrator and setting the Share on these files to Everyone made the files playable. Now that we know what the problem is, does anyone have a better solution?
