iPlayer beta for PPC Mac

It works...!!
I downloaded Doctor Who - 'Silence In The Library' as a test and it was fine. The playback doean't seem perfect - slightly out of sync and a little jerky but I believe that is another separate issue.

It is true that PPC users can install the iPlayer desktop and download and view programmes. However the playback is extremely bad, being very jerky with a very low frame-rate, and a low resolution image. It is a much more enjoyable experience to stream programmes - even low quality streaming mode is far superior to the desktop performance on a PPC.
So PPC users: don't bother installing the iPlayer desktop - just stream the programmes.

This is very disappointing for Mac users - I've got a 2GHz [Unsuitable/Broken URL removed by Moderator] which isn't exactly slow, but downloaded programmes are unwatchable. Let's face it, if you've got an Intel Mac, you can run Windows anyway. I accept that there must be a minimum spec, but I suspect that this still excludes the majority of Mac users

Seems ok on my machine. Slightly lo-res but watchable even at full screen - sound and picture always in sync, though the picture stutters a bit during action sequences.

It works ok on my Mac. Also slightly low resolution, but probably no worse that streaming. However, it did stutter a lot when I had Firefox open at the same time.

I find quite often the streaming keeps stopping and loading a lot making it hard for me to view most programs. The desktop player stutters badly on my PPC Mac.

Have just downloaded the player onto a powerbook G4. Now waiting for a programme to finish downloading to see how bad or good the result is. So, after paying the licence fee, they still discriminate against some computer users. If I bought an Intel Mac I'd have to spend a small fortune upgrading lots of perfectly serviceable software. Just to be able to watch the telly. If the result is bad, there's always bit-torrent. Usually works fine and most things are out there...
