Lidl are advertising 375gm lobster for 4.99.
Has anyone tried this yet? Is there any flesh or is all shell? OH had a raid on Lidl this morning and bought one. So, what do I do with it - I've never eaten lobster so had to try it. Any suggestions please?

Frozen lobster has never impressed me - somehow the texture and flavour doesn't seem right but I have seen this Lidl offer and certainly the price is good. I think I would curry it rather than try to produce one of the classic dishes that would stand or fall on the quality of the product.

I had one last year and there was virtually nothing in it! Don't plan a meal around it. I think on another thread someone worked out the cost per ounce of the lobster meat in a Lidl lobster and it was truly staggering!

I bought some of these lobsters last year together with some of the velvet crabs. I was living with my daughter at the time and popped them into her freezer. Then I totally forgot about them!

Anyway, she mentioned the other day that they actually defrosted the whole lot and made crab and lobster fishcakes! Now that sounds good!!!

I bought one last year from Lidl and there was very little meat and it was sort of 'soggy', but I guess would be Ok fried in butter?

It made me laugh because the paper the other day made a big fuss about Lidl getting them in for the credit crunch when they have had them in for at least the last 3 Xmas's! We even had threads about it last year so I know I'm not making it up!

Hi
I Lurve Lobster - like the legs the best - sucking all the insides through such a small hole at the top and flicking it all over my face
whistle possibly too much information there!!!! laugh
Anyway
£4.99 not a bad price at all, but I guess although never tasted one, it cant be that meaty - however, Tesco at the moment are selling ready to eat lobster (in the freezer cabinet - don't be put off) half normal price, so you pay £6.00. My OH and I had it for starter last Friday and it was really tasty. The only draw back, (but I suppose if you bought one alive), is you have to halve it by using a knife through its back! I got OH to do that as I busied myself filling the dishwasher erm

As for the serving of it, lobster is very nice on a bed of rocket, not too much though as the pepper cuts through the lobster. A drizzle of lemon and a small serving of lemon mayo with crusty bread.
You could always do thermidore, however, I have only ever eaten this on a fresh lobster, a frozen one I am not too keen on reheating if at all you can!

When I was 'home alone' last year I bought a lobster from Tesco - it was fine but if OH had been home it would've been a light snack.

I freeze lobster shells (and prawns) in order to make a lobster bisque. Bake shells in the oven, put in pot with some veg, sweat a bit and add fish stock.

Never having had lobster, can someone tell me how to prepare it please. I assume you cut it open but I don't know how! Where do I start?

I started to type out the instructions for preparing the lobster (which is very easy) but I am not good at explaining things like that.

Perhaps this link will help you - just scroll down the page a little for the instructions (points 6. 7. and 8. are the relevant ones):-

We had one year before last, as a small starter between two. I used a rolling pin and a very sharp knife to extract all the meat (allow plenty of defrosting time), then I gently fried it for about 4 minutes in butter, garlic and chilli flakes, then served on a small piece of wholemeal bread. Was nice enough but a very small amount of lobster!

I bought a couple last year. as I recall it, they weren't too bad. Of course they are not like fresh ones, can't be at this price, but we enjoyed eating one each smiley. Generally, not always, you get what you pay for winkeye!
