Unlikely - ODLH showed signs of ring-rust and age in general.

Mayweather will easily out-point ODLH. Oscar is a legend. I love the guy but he doesn't have the spark of old and is likely to look bad against a Prime FMJ.

Funny how the critics come out from the woodwork after the fight isn't it. I for one did not tip de la hoya to lose as he is one of the greatest P4P fighters ever(top 15). However to beat floyd mayweather at his age he would have to put on the performance of his career. He would have to reproduce last night and 96 against chavez all over again. If he beat mayweather then he would be top 10 P4P ever. Cant see the fight happening though as floyd snr has said he would not plot the KO of his son. A good fight for De la hoya would be against hatton although i think he wants to win another title before he retires. If hatton beats collazo then it could happen but i doubt it.

couldn't agree more man_machine. The de la hoya o 10 years ago would make it a very close fight,he would probably win, but it is to big an ask now. Not completely writing him off but it would be very very difficult. Mayweather for a UD IF the fight takes place.

Which "critics" are you referring to?

I thought most people on the board had pegged ODLH to win.

Yes, my thoughts exactly.

The old guy did a great job last night but a Prime Mayweather would have the measure. Oscar simply wouldn't be able to land cleanly and would be caught by Mayweather's nanosecond assaults.

The fight shouldn't happen. ODLH is a '90's Fighter and the year is...???

you never know though..

De La Hoya is naturally bigger than pretty boy and well.... you never know..

realistically Floyd would probably win now blush

Machine_Man, I'm not so sure everyone picked DLH to win this one. I think the performance turned a lot of opinions on their head. Before the fight, people have spoken of DLH in quite derogatory terms in respect of him being a future Mayweather opponent. I've seen terms like "past it" and "old man" used to describe the 33 year old. Now I'm not saying DLH is the most respectable opponent Floyd should because I don't believe he is. But can we say after last night that all of the abouve is a fair assessment?

Regarding a possible fight between ODLH and PBF.

IMO it is impossible to use last night's fight as a positive guide to how ODLH could defeat PBF - simply because the contrast in styles between PBF & Mayorga is huge, and styles make fights.

For example, Trinidad thrashed Mayorga compresenhively but was totally lost against Winky Wright. Now I'm not saying Wright is identical in style to PBF, but I am sure you can understand the analogy I am making.

I go along with the general view (expressed, so far) that Mayweather would have the edge over DLH, at this stage of DLH's career (a few years ago it might well have been different).

However, after last night's performance, DLH showed he is still a very capable boxer and I certainly wouldn't write off his chances totally.

Having said that, I actually hope the fight doesn't take place. For one thing, it would tear up Mayweather sr., who's been very close to DLH, emotionally and for another, I'd like to see DLH bow out on a high.

I thought De Lay Hoya would lose. I thought he would do a Jones Junior and Holyfield and come back all washed up but I was wrong, great performance.

I still think he's a bit cheesy, but a great boxer.

I must say that i was one of those who though DLH was no longer a credible opponent for someone like PBF, but you have to give the guy credit for the win last night. Mayorga isn't exactly the best fighter in the world, but i really though his relentless brawling style would cause a lot of problems for DLH. However, Oscar proved that he can still pick an opponent apart and that he still has a decent dig on him. For me PBF still wins a UD, but i think that at light-middle DLH has the power to really hurt PBF. Judah managed to rock him on a couple of occassions and Judah doesn't have world class power.

De La Hoya is IBHOF material. Mayorga is an embarrassment and a disgrace to boxing. I'm glad DLH was dominant but at the same time I'd like him to retire. His legacy is secure. I think PBF would be too much for him.
