Ver promising to see a UK fighter calling the shots and having a shortlist of name fighter who are or have been recently world champions.

Gatti - Good name and little danger

Freitas - Not the most natural at light welter

Castillo - Dangerous and no easy option

Corrales - Hatton should have too much for him as he's still living off the glory of the Castillo I fight.

Poor. I don't see how it can be Corrales or Castillo as they are fighting each other and it has now been delayed due to Corrales injury. If they aren't fighting until March no way can either fight Hatton in April/May. This leaves Gatti and Freitas. One totally shot and the other inactive for ages coming of a heavy defeat.

That's true but maybe the corrales/Castillo fight is in danger of falling through.
Gatti and Freitas are shot but there were/are far far easier opponents out there for Hatton to start off with. It seems now he's free of Warren he can fight who he wants and doesn't mind taking a tougher option.

Good on ya Ricky!

Freitas has had at least one fight since the Corrales defeat. He's a decent name, though not as well known in the US as Gatti. Personally i'd love to see a fight with Castillo as it is a genuinely dangerous fight for Hatton. I think that Gatti, Freitas, and Corrales are all fairly easy pickings for Ricky in all honesty. Unfortunately if he definitely wants to fight in May then a match-up with Castillo looks unlikely.

I'd love to see it, but i don't think Cotto wants a piece of Hatton, at least not at light-welter. I think that if this fight is ever going to happen it will be made further down the line at welter.

Freitas is more naturally a lightweight and would naturally be an easier option for Hatton.
Agree that the castillo fight would be a superb fight and it could be held in a telephone box. if it's Gatti or Freitas then Hatton to win easy but i'd rather see him fight either of those two who at least have a cv than another Maussa character.

Not sure who it was against, not a real name. Have a look on boxrec. I'm pretty sure in was at light-welter though. To be honest i think he is making a mistake stepping up again. His power didn't carry too well up to lightweight so i can't see it being that effective at light-welter. Also if Corrales and Castillo both move up it leaves him looking like a decent fighter in a fairly average division. There's too much quality at light-welter for Freitas to be a threat.

I reckon its gonna be Gatti because lik everyone else has said Corrales and Castillo won't be ready.

I thought Gatti was stepping up to welter though? Isn't he pretty strongly rumoured to be fighting Baldomir?

So basiacally the Gatti fight is no1 on the list if not they will get Freitas - but better throw in the names of Castillo and Corrales as they sound good but are tied up with each other

I think Ricky will fight Gatti next as it makes sense! Gatti wants one last big pay day and this would give Ricky the chance to get a bigger following in the USA and get a huge fanbase! Although if I was Ricky I would fight Jose Luis Castillo because he is one of the most talked about fighters on the planet at the moment and it would be a great fight because both have strength and power and punch to the body! The fans would love this fight, I know I would! I fancy Ricky to beat any of the 4 on the short list but he must be careful especially with Castillo (BIG LEFT HOOK)! I still think PBF may have too much skill for Hatton and just control him and take his power away in the later stages! NAMING HIS OPPONENTS (WELL DONE RICKY)! MAKE A MATCH SOON...

True - Castillo was in training for a 4th Feb fight. Even if this is postponed a month it must still be a better option than him having to ease of and then get ready for an April/May fight with Hatton. Also can't beleive the Hatton fight will be worth more financially than the Corrales fight. It's either Gatti or Freitas which is rubbish. I don't buy this aclimitisation excuse. It's only America and if it's NY it's only a 6 hour flight. Don't see Lacy demanding an acclimitisation fight before taking on Calzaghe.

Freitas hasn't been inactive. He's fought twice in Brazil since his loss to Corrales- a 10 round UD and then a quick 1 round Ko in July last year.

He's a very good fighter, true world class and there's no disgrace losing to Corrales, particularily seeing as he had reported weight problems anyway.

It would be a good fight, and Freitas brings speed and power to the table.

Gatti is shot to peices and was never really good anyway, but Hatton's got to fight soon and if the other fights (including Mayweather or Cotto) can't be made, then I say let him fight Gatti and earn some dosh.

I would advise Ricky to fight once in the US before taking on Mayweather! Ricky is so used to a partisan crowd that he needs to adjust and find his feet in the USA! It's a different world over there and probably one of the hardest places to fight in the world! BE PATIENT...

Not sure that i agree with you about the Freitas fight. He was an absolute beast at super-feather, but i really don't think he carried the power up to lightweight particularly well. The Corrales defeat was bad due to the manner of it. He boxed pretty well until Corrales caught him and then he just folded. I think he knew that his power wasn't troubling Corrales (who isn't exactly granite-chinned) so he just quit. If he still had the awesome power he carried at super-feather then he would have carried on knowing that it would just take one punch to swing the fight his way. IMO Hatton would get Freitas out of there within five roinds.

Well am not suprise, I post on here yesterday on the witter/mayweather thread that Hatton has sign to fight 2 "bums" and castillo as mailed to me by my sources, While i wouldnt call gatti and freitas bums i doubt he really can fight PBF this year if his first fight would be in May.

He's already fought in the states. On the undercard of Naz v Kelly. Plus styles wise how is any of the fighters mentioned going to prepare him for Mayweather ? I'm a huge Hatton fan but this is a joke. Freitas got hammered by Corrales, hasn't stopped anyone decent in years and has never fought at a decent level at 140.
