Heikki Kovalainen has been confirmed as Renault's second driver for 2007 (well alongside Fisichella anyway)
Zonta and Piquet have been employed as testers for the team.
Raikkonen to Ferrari then, Schumacher to retire!

Renault stealing MS's thunder by breaking the news/suspense before the weekend rather than wait til Sunday. There goes the "suprise"

It is still possible that Raikkonen will stay at McLaren, and Schumi continues....
Having said that, I'm fairly convinced that MS will announce his retirement on Sunday, it does all seem to be slotting into place.

Jeez, a rookie and a loser. Nice work Flav!
Well it was nice seeing Renault have a burst of glory. Shame it has to come to such an abrupt end

Well, it's goodbye to Renault's championship challenge next year. Even with a car at the sharp end of the grid Fisi has been nothing short of a disaster, and I can't see Kovalainen being much better.

Doesn't seem to be the strongest driver line-up for a top team. Shame considering that they will likely have a car capable of challenging for the championship, just no-one up to the job of driving it. But if MS is retiring and Kimi was already contracted to Ferarri then what other choices did they have? Montoya? Villeneuve?
Could be another year for alonso then. Can't see renault challenging much and Ferarri will be in a transition year especially if Brawn takes a sabbatical as some are suggesting.

I still think it is perfectly possible that Schumacher and Raikonnen could both drive for Ferrari next season. Given equal status it would give Schumacher a chance to silence a lot of his critics.

MS has never risked going up against an equal team mate in his whole F1 career. Why would he do it in what would probably be his final season?

Ferrari seem to be giving MS the choice of being team-mate to Kimi or retiring.
Now, if he narrowly misses out on the title this year there would be a great motivation to stay for another year. But on the balance of probabilities I would say he'll retire.

Heikki is a very good driver, however as has been seen with Rosberg, (who beat Heikki in GP2 last year), a rookie has to learn by his mistakes. The last time that I saw a rookie make an immediate impact, and challenge for the title was Villeneuve in 96. However, he already had the champ car title in his pocket, and was more experienced than Heikki.

1. It would give him a chance to silence his critics if he beats Raikonnen. 2. He would have a significant advantage at the start of the season due to hs familiarity with the car/team etc. 3. He has nothing to lose. If he is beaten by Raikonnen he can still retire a 7 (or 8) times champion.

Webber, Villeneuve and Montoya are all stronger drivers than Fisi IMO. Heikki could turn out to be the best in the world but he won't do much in his rookie year.

Surely he has his reputation to lose. Why would he risk spending his final season being run ragged by Raikkonnen and have people saying that he only won so much because he never had an equal team mate? As it is, he would retire and be remembered as the most dominant driver of the last 15 years.

I'm almost certain it'll be de la Rosa. Hamilton simply isn't ready yet, no amount of media pushing will change that. He needs a year of testing preferably, or a season at Midland or somewhere. Paffett hasn't impressed me with his testing times. I know it's only testing, but you would have thought he would set a quick time in at least one test - and he hasn't to my knowledge. Furthermore Ron and Martin W. have been fulsome in their praise for Pedro's performances thus far.
