Hello there - News update...

The teenage golfer has confirmed that she will not be attempting to qualify for this year's Open.

Originally it was though that Wie and Annika Sorenstam could take advantage of last year's rule change, but Wie has opted out.

She explains that it is due to her busy schedule this year.

No offence Lou,

But GOOD, women should stick too there tour, why on earth women would want to play against men is beyond me anyway, I mean you dont have it in tennis, cricket, football, snooker, darts do you.

She's getting her priorities sorted out. Now that she's a pro, she needs to concentrate on establishing herself on the women's tour. She has plenty of time to have a crack at The Open at some point in the future.

Don't get me wrong, I'm as much a fan of the womens game and womens sport in general as the next man, but I just don't see why they'd want to compete against men.

I'd like to see her try to qualify. Might give us a chance to put her game into perspective playing through two rounds of qualifying. I don't think she'd make it at the moment but she might learn a bit and we might learn about the true strength in depth of the mens game.

I think when Wie plays her best game, she could compete against the men.

At the moment she's not even a regular on the LPGA Tour and she's still at College - it makes no sense for her to qualify for the Open this year - and she certainly could not be able to give it her best shot. At least she did appreciate that the R&A had left the option open - I think in a couple of years she might give it a go - when the timing is better for her.
