Typcial caller on the VD show. On a discussion on England/Britain they wheel out the usual headbangers who loathe the country.

The Beeb must have been delighted with the chap who described the Union Flag as 'the toilet roll' of history.

Hurrah!

Indeed DQ. An oddly balanced combination of guests; the Secretary of the Barmy Army, YAB and the founder of "Britain's No1 Selling Black Weekly Newspaper".

And a caller who rang in to defend the Union Jack was reminded of how its association with Empire was distasteful. This is now so universally recognised as a Terrible Thing, that he readily agreed. Looking at the corrupt, war-torn, poverty-stricken Africa of today, I can't help wondering if it's time we rid ourselves of the guilt we're all supposed to feel about Colonialism and consider whether conditions for Africans were worse then than they are now - or than they would have been if Africa had never been colonised at all. Ideal for a 5L text vote? Ha.

I has switched off by this time. I see the usual suspects are wheeled out. YAB makes a living out of insulting the country she chose to make her home. Quite laughable really.

Jack, I was thinking exactly the same about their choice of guests.

Same programme, slightly different subject:

The highlight for me was VD reading aloud (without having pre-read) an emailed joke regarding the women 'brains v. beauty' argument.

".....and the blonde says "God made me beautiful so that you would be attracted to me and he made me stupid so that I would be attracted to you" -
to which the listening audience could add the finale "knowing that you are married to someone else"

Hoot, hoot.

If you have something to say please try and make it sensible. Health care is free in England, tutition fees are the same for all students who study in scotland not just scottish ones and last time i checked i was paying exactly the same amount of tax as you. the point of having a scottish parliament is so that things can be different here although not necessarily better

Ah but she didn't choose to make it her home, you see. She was forced in chains to come here when that champion of multi-culturalism and proponent of human rights, Idi Amin expelled her and thousands of others from Uganda in the early to mid 70s.

She is a prisoner here and obviously longs for the democratic utopia that is and was, the vast swathes of the continent of Africa

Indeed. She is imprisoned in the UK as was Nelson Mandela in South Africa. This is the world according to Yabba Dabba Doo.

If it had been down to Scotland and Scotland alone to get the oil and gas out of the North Sea it would still be there, untouched.

So lets have no more of your "our oil" rubbish

Not correct. Care for the elderly in Scotland is free, yet the Scottish run UK Government says it can't afford it for England. How come?

Scottish Students don't pay tuition fees up front, but English noes do, again the Scottish Parlaiament appears to be able to "find" the money to do this but the UK Government can't for England.

Take the education system. In Scotland, the Scots are rightly proud of their education system and spend plenty of time telling the English how wonderful it is. Yet, the English system is used as a political football, usually by the Scottish dominated Labour Party here in England.

How come the Englsih have NO say in the Scottish education system?

And of course Foundation Hospitals are such a good idea the Scots don't want them, yet we had a Scots as Helath Secretary telling the English they were a great idea.

How about all the original "Brits" who were taken into slavery by the Romans? Do we all hate Italians because of that? I think not. Or the Scandanavians for all that raping they did?

What really makes me laugh is that the same bunch of loser lefties are the ones who on one hand say we should stop talking about the War and make friends with Europe, yet on the other hand constantly go on about the "Evil British Empire"

Of course by our modern standards the British Empire was rather dodgy, but hundreds of years ago that was how all European Countries defended themselves. Everyone had an empire, even Belgium.

And why is is it that slavery is alive and well in black run Africa, but no one appears to object to that? Or the old story that the west arms Africa (it doesn't) whils the slaughter was going on in the Sudan, Russia signed a massive arms deal with the Government there. Did you hear that on the BBC? I think not.

Same as the BBC went OTT when some black gangster rapper murderer was put down, yet totally ignores Muslim Countries like Iran that hang children from cranes for simply being gay.

Another UK topic, out come the rabid anti-Scots bashers.

Yawn yawn.

Last time I looked in my neck of the woods there were PLENTY Scots working in the oil industry, helping to "get it out of the ground" both on and offshore.

Plenty other industry leaders who are *GASP* Scottish !!

I should know, and YES funnily enough the "UK" Govt 30yrs ago DID hide the true wealth of oil, fearing that if Scots knew fully what THEY were sitting on, they would have voted for independence. Therefore N.Sea oil bankrolled & continues to bankroll the Govt "dan sarf".

English subsidise Scots...GIVE ME A BREAK.

Well yes we do. We've been subsidising the jocks for decades.

Oh and if you Scots were independent would you be happy to pay to use the English road and rail system to move goods and services to Europe? I think not, you would expect to use it all for free.

Scotland has the opportunity at every election to go Independent, the English do not have that right. The Scottish dominated political maffia in Westminster won't allow any threat of English nationalism to destry their cosy little agreement.

I don't hate the Scots, I just mirror the anti Englishness I have to put up with every time I come into contact with any Scotsman.

I've never come across a Scotsman, even those living in England who likes the English. If this hatred they have is mirroed back on them they get very upset (like the jocks here) but think its OK to pour out their own bile on the English.

I just wonder how Scotland would survive if you were all fenced in behind a 50 foot concrete wall? Would you still be so anti English then?
