When someone's being unkind on a social networking site, it's important not to reply, save the evidence, tell an adult you trust and all of these sites have report buttons and it's important you use them. Remember, some social networking sites have a minimum age of 13 and creating an account before you are the correct age will break the terms and conditions of the site.

When someone asks me for my personal information, I always apologise and say I don't share my personal details over the internet because it's unsafe and you can never be sure who is on the other computer. XxxX

The internet is a fantastic place to chat to your friends. But remember online friends are still strangers. It's important that you only add friends on to your account that you have met in the real world so that you know exactly who you're talking to.

Yes, and I think the best thing to do is to save the evidence of the bullying and never reply. I reported the person and blocked and deleted them off of my account so they couldn't reach me again. XxxX

Posted by Pippa, Lindsay and Su - Childnet Experts (U14778788) on Tuesday, 8th February 2011
It depends if you know the person who's asking. If you don't, keep safe by not giving out personal information, or by posting it online where other people can see it. And even if you know the person who's asking, it's up to you what you share online and who you share it with. It's important to remember that photos can reveal a lot about a person and can stay online forever.

First of all, you should make sure the people that you are sharing with are people you know, just to be safe. You shouldn't share information such as your address, phone numbers, etc. In addition, any photos you share should be appropriate and not compromise yourself or others in them. XxxX

Saffron has given excellent advice. Personal information also includes your e-mail address, school address, friends and family's details and also your passwords. At Childnet we say: "Treat your password like your toothbrush, don't share it with anyone else." However there are great places to talk about your interests and hobbies like the CBBC messageboards!

And also if something comes into the junk but you think it's safe but you are not sure what should you do??
Thanks for your help.

Accepting e-mails, instant messaging or opening files from people you don't know or trust can lead to problems. They may contain viruses, nasty messages or inappropriate images. The best thing to do to junk e-mail is to delete it. If you're unsure what to do, ask an adult who can help.

Dear Kristin,
Well done you for wanting a safer internet!
If I could change one thing about the internet, I would make it possible for the user to see who they were talking to on social networking sites so you could see their true identity and wouldn't get any posers. XxxX

It can be really upsetting when this happens. You've done the right thing in letting your parents know. It's a shame it hasn't stopped. If you know who it is and if it's someone from your school, make sure you let your school know as they can give fantastic advice. You can also report to the website you're using because they would want to look after their users. If the bullying continues and gets really bad, you can make a report to the police as cyberbullying can break different laws. Also if you want to talk to someone online, Cybermentors offer really good online support. We really hope it gets sorted out and that you can continue to enjoy using the internet.

Hey DiamondSmilingQueen,
I'm really sorry this is happening to you as I have been through this before. But, if you follow the advice of the Childnet Team, then it should stop. Best of luck to you.

I think it is a really good idea. It is a good way to make us understand better about the internet and how dangerous it can be if we don't know how to be safe. I think is also a gr8 idea that Saffron Coomber and ChildNet are gonna be there to talk to us. I am definitely going to be there to ask a question.
Here is on: Why can't there be a Child Safety website or Club that people can join for free and it is fun? If there is could you tell me which website it is?

You sound like you need to talk to someone about what you are going through at the moment. You could talk to a family member, a friend, a teacher. If there is no one you feel you can speak to it may help to visit -
This site gives you help and advice on Online Bullying,
www.bullying.co.uk/p...
Samaritans on their helpline: 08457 90 90 90 which is local rates.
E-Mail: Jo@samaritans.org.uk
You may want to check out the helpline Childline -
Freephone Childline: 0800 1111
There are more helplines listed when you click on SOS in Bugbears www.bbc.co.uk/cbbc/b...
Go to Bugbears and click on 'SOS' in the top right hand corner.
Try to speak to someone as soon as possible. It might surprise you how much better it feels when you share a problem.
