Ooh, Christopher Reeve, thanks BYT.
He used to like to go gliding and took one from the airfield at Dunstable but it came down in a field at the back of us in the small village where we were living.
All the kids went running up the field to see him, the farmer hadn't the foggiest of who he was, but he was gracious and friendly, had his photo taken with dozens of people and was generally thought to be a great guy.
A pity he isn't here anymore.

Struggling with a piece of OU coursework I was reflecting on how, in the dim and distant, I used to listen to Rabbi Lionel Blue doing TFTD as I toiled over last minute coursework.
Then I remembered that, years later as a civil servant I received a handwritten letter from Rabbi Blue, making representations on behalf of a ?parishoner? (what is the Jewish equivalent word?)
And it was addressed to me. By name.
And yes, I know Rabbi Blue was writing to me in my capacity as representative of the Minister of State. But the letter was addressed to me, by name, and it made me very happy.
Sadly the constiuent did not meet the requirements of the rules and I was not able to write back in positive terms, but I just know Rabbi Blue didn't hold that against me. After all, we'd seen in so many early mornings together, when I was doing my devoir, and he was on the radio...

I used to have a dog whose father was on a Pedigree Chum advert, er that's about it I think... Oh, Ben Kinglsey was quite taken with our buzzard (OH was an extra and they wanted to borrow the bird to try something).
Other than that I think it's all through my brother-in-law: when he was doing his degree he designed something that Margaret Thatcher had a go on (a rowing machine IIRC); years ago when Manchester United were doing a South African tour they all went to BiL's (and sister's) house as he was something to do with the fan club; the nephews did training with MU and were lectured to by Ryan Giggs about how he different his life would have been if he lived there as he is black; Denis Law apologised to my sister because of George Best swearing in front of her; one of their houses (they moved around a lot) had been previously owned by Gary Player.
