Why is it that every redesign of the website makes it harder to find the actual programme? And now if you go to the Catch Up page you get a plot spoiling summary immediately below the icon you have to press to listen to the episode. That mistake was corrected about 3 re-designs ago after protests but I guess people have forgotten! It's only because we love the programme that we care...

Jen you seem to think the website is for our benefit.

In fact its role is to met BBC parameters.

User views are not considered in the least.

TAYLER - deny it if you can.

    Spot on, OI.

That is exactly what we were told when the latest revamp made it impossible to avoid photos of the actors when seeking information about the characters - that the website had to conform with a BBC template.

Quite why we still have a situation, several months down the line, where there is still heaps of information that used to be on the website, but which has since disappeared into oblivion is anyone's guess. Presumably BBC employees have performance targets to achieve (e.g. "To complete the updating and transfer of all information on the Archers Website by 31 October 2012") - so what was the timescale in this case?

    Hi Jen

I'll pass this on to the team.

    Hi Mieteka,

Website updates are done by Keri Davies who's also a scriptwriter. He manages the updates as and when he has time.

Tayler Please pass this on to Keri

Together with the suggestion of relinking to the old pages in the interim.

    Hi Jen

Keri says that the recent updates were made to fit in with the new BBC system. He's sorry but it can't be changed. There's more information about it here:

    Hi OI

I don't think the old pages exist any more.

    Hi Tayler

It is scarcely credible that they do not still exist in some system backups/archives.

And scarcely more credible that Keri does not have a full set on his PC to use as a base for the new ones.

    Unless he likes reinventing wheels?

Just as it is totally incredible that the new system FORCES use of photos. I am certain that IF there was a will there would be a way. The obvious one being duplication of the data, with and without pics.

I find it inconceivable that none of the BBC bods kept the webpages until they were replaced... all that material lost. But if that really is the case, then may I suggest facilities such as The Way Back Machine, which will pull the info back from oblivion for free.

I'm also curious: is doing the website part of Keri's job or something he does out of the goodness of his heart? if it is part of his job, then surely he has performance targets and timescales to meet. If he is doing it for sheer love of the show, then the man deserves a medal.

Already awarded the "Round Tuit" - see post 5.
