I can't believe that by now Matt has not taken Lilian's mobile to one side to see who all the calls and texts are to & from. It is just so obvious that she is telling him a pack of lies. For someone as devious and savvy as Matt, you would think he would be more than just a little suspicious BY NOW !! You have to make the storylines a bit more believable than this dear scriptwriters. I'd have checked at about the 3rd hesitant lie if she was my partner smiley - smiley Can't be long now surely, but I guess the message board will be switched off by then.

I agree; no-one could have ignored the hesitation and the determinedly expressionless face that would accompany the very obvious dialogue, don't you think? As you say, Lil's behaviour would not stand the lightest scrutiny in RL, and Matt would surely have confronted her ages ago. Soooo, maybe we are building up to a big finish to this whole cringe inducing saga, or maybe not - who knows!

He may be a lot of things, but dim isn't one of them.

I reckon he's known from the start and is biding his time for all manner of 'Matt' reasons and benefits, which one day (please be soon!) will come to light.

He is the sort of man who would see no point in cutting off his nose to spite his face and I think he is almost enjoying it.

Oh, he's exceedingly dim. Thick as mince. You only need to look at the cack-handed bank fraud to see that.

All the bluster, self-confidence and property developer gobblydegook in the world can't paper over his dimness.

Matt is either exceedingly clever or exceedingly dim. Neither seems to fit him very well.

I am still hoping that he is playing the long game and will meet up with Paul in some darkened place with a heavy brick, then encase him in concrete, along with the mobile phone.

Oh, yes please! Otherwise there may be another stalker type stort line like the awful rapist person whose name I have forgotten, who kept terrorising Cathy a few years ago. The Paul character seems to be capable of anything, as he seems so unbelievable.

Yes, Paul is too much like a stalker for my liking. I think that is one of the things that made him such an unlikely candidate for the Brief Encounter treatment. (maybe that was just Lilian's fantasy).

I have been told, by someone who's husband went astray in middle age, that she did not understand how people could not know, it was blindingly obvious, without any 'proof'.

He probably knows something is afoot - but what could he do? He is at Lil's mercy financially ..

If he says anything it could precipitate her chucking him for her lover.. and all he'll have is redundancy money.

As far as he is concerned - best sit it out and hope it blows over

Why would he examine her phone? I assume that Fagash has deleted the entries. I would. She's not daft. I expect Paul is in her address book as 'Drain-unblocker', Samaritans' or suchlike. If I was doing what she is doing, that's what I'd do. (Or am I just devious?)

But when Lilian has claimed that the 10 text messages she'd had in an afternoon were from Jennifer or her old school chum, the fact that they show up as 10 texts from Drain-unblocker would be enough for Matt to have a little chat with her.

I find this storyline very tedious. I wish it would stop.

Yes, i'm not sure how long it really has been dragging on but it seems like forever. Time they stopped teasing us and just made it happen.... And i don't think there's a new way of saying "oh Paul i miss yiu so much" etc after they've done that so many times. It's getting to the stage where i don't care about any of it any more, not even the stupid Mill that there is bound to be trouble at.

She must be *very* daft not to switch her phone off, or switch it to silent mode, when in the company of others.

snork! i do love your posts, mini, you always make me laugh.

actually i laugh out loud every time lilians phone rings and we have to listen to the stuttering delivery of her quite obvious shiftiness and lies to matt.
its on a par with every time the floorboards were either up /down/down/up. that had me hooting too, by the end.

I think he knows and is setting her up for failure with the new mill development. She could loose most of her money and he would just walk away. Jennier has pointed out the risk Lillian is taking financially a couple of times.

But Matt would lose everything .. so why would he do that? Am not sure she has got all her millions in the business either .. she spoke of "working capital" .. when discussing the merits of the scheme. She will have at least her investment in The Bull - and I bet she has lots in off-shore accounts.. and even if it is only a little it will be more than nothing.

However Matt would walk away with nowt .. and no means of starting a business either ..

He wouldn't, would he? It would be cutting off his nose to spite his face.

OTOH I don't understand what Lilian thinks she is doing. She must know that she's got to decide to go one way or the other, and not dither about stringing both men along.

If I were her I'd ditch Paul ASAP

    Of course he knows.

Like I said earlier, he's not stupid! (Although I was put in my place for muttering my humble opinion).

My thoughts exactly and all he has to do then is ring the actual number. Dire plot line really. Let's just get to the BIG ROW SCENE. Hope he doesn't get too violent with Paul.

Am sure he knows SOMETHING - but not the details
.. So why doesn't he spy on her?

    - because he doesn't want to find out ..

.. because he doesn't want to precipitate a row and her dumping him.

Matt has no power now .. whatever he does to "get his own back" he would end up the loser.

Best strategy - sit it out and hope she gets fed up with her lover

Yes, this plot is certainly becoming very tedious and more unbelievable by the minute, but I do not think it will end with a bout of fisticuffs between Matt and Paul. Paul already knows that Lilian is cheating on Matt, and it surely cannot be long before Matt finds out about Paul, if he hasn't already. My hope is that both men will decide to dump the two-timing old tart, and that she will not only lose both her lovers but also a lot of her money in the new venture. Paul will still have his business and I wouldn't write off Matt's ability to bounce back. Despite what others have said, I don't think he is stupid but very crafty and cunning!

It might not ruin her completely, but if Amside goes udders up I suspect it might put a draughty dent in her fortune.

I'm wondering if Matt might be doing a deal with some other partner in the consortium, that will leave Fagash with the financial loss, the partner with a knockdown price, bargain development opportunity, and Matt with a lucrative little consultancy position...?

I've been wondering this. Matt surely knows something is up but is being horribly nice to Lilian, presumably keeping his options open but making sure he won't exit empty-handed if she dumps him.
