Aw thanks for that .. I'll quote the lyrics too (below) for they seem appropriate. I'd not heard of this particular singer - but the other singers you mentioned have been known to me since childhood - for father's family were very musical .

Great Uncle had a huge collection of "gramophone" recordings of music - including many of John McCormack's. I think I have a re-issue of one or two of his songs - but the sound quality is poor.

"Tis the last rose of summer, left blooming alone.
All her lovely companions, are faded and gone.
No flower of her kindred, no rosebud is nigh.
To reflect back her blushes, or give sigh for sigh.
I'll not leave thee thou lone one, to pine on the stem.
Since the lovely are sleeping, go sleep thou with them.
Thus kindly I'll scater, thy leaves on the bed.
Where thy mates of the garden, lie scentless and dead.

    Well said polly ..

The fact that someone who *had* worked for EE seemed grist to their mill too .. despite the fact that he had no input to the content of TA. Rather - he as good as criticised the program for too many "dark" stories last year ..
