I feel sorry for Pavel. What's he actually done that's so terrible? He's a young gay man from a place where it's difficult, if not dangerous, to be openly gay. He's trying to enjoy Britain's more open culture while making a few quid. In the process he gets drunk with his boss and goes to bed with him. They are both adults.

From the next day Pavel finds that every word he says to Adam is met with blanket anger, disgust, denigration and rejection. Is it any wonder he's a bit pissed off? Adam's attitude to Pavel, post one night stand, has been appalling. One might even argue that as Pavel's considerably older employer and landlord, Adam has totally failed in his duty of care to his young guest. If he'd treated a young woman in that way, (flitting and sipping, as Wodehouse would say), I guarantee ML would be up in arms, not slagging off the victim.

Anyway, love and hugs to Pavel, keep fighting in Poland, sorry you picked a neo-colonial twonk in Ambridge, better luck next year! XXX

I think Wodehouse would have said sipping and flitting rather than the other way round? I mean, nce flitted, it might be a bit difficult to sip. Or is this some new set of slang that I (and Wodehouse, if it is more recent than 1975) don't know?

Sorry Feda, but much as I'd like to (anything to discomfort Adam) I cannot sympathise with Pavel.

Mostly because he is on the wrong end of a bit of common or garden post coital remorse. Added to that Adam feels enormous guilt at having been unfaithful to Ian. Pavel should have seen all that coming and not gone on and on whining in that weasely voice of his. Just put it down to a bit of fun and moved on / off / away. Naivety is forgivable, but he is just such an unlovable little creep.

    Pavel, I am your friend.

Look - I'll be upfront here. Normally, I wouldn't care two hoots about you.

But you have placed the feline amongst the Columbia Livia and it wasn't a moment too soon.

Please drop some hints to Mrs. "Arldridge". Please don't disappear off back to Poland leaving everything hunky dory with Chuckles O'Baster and the Polytunnel Kid.

    Ever yours,

I'm signing up in pencil, Freda.

Though I can't stand Pawel's wheedling voice or underhanded ways, the fact that he's giving Adam more than a few minutes of disquiet is reason enough to be on his side. Adam has indeed been nasty to him from the moment he woke up on that fateful morning.

Adam has behaved like a complete pig to Pawel and Ian.
Pawel - I don't feel so sorry for. He wanted a one-night stand and he got one. In the course of that night, Adam showed he has no strength of moral fibre at all and betrayed his partner. Complete pig!

And then he goes home and makes like nothing had happened?

In my book, Adam deserves every squirm inducing moment and then some. I just hope Ian keeps his Sabatiers nice and sharp.

Pawel is a hussy and I don't like hussies.

Adam may have danced the Hungarian Tango of his own volition but Pawel hussied at Ian good and proper. In their own home, having insinuated himself inside on pretext of needing cheering up.

Adam has been so stupid but he was so emotional etc at that time.
Pavel is calculating and using Jenny, silly, silly Jenny.

Can't believe Jenny and her absolute stupidity and lack of any idea regards this recent situation.

As both Jenny and her husband have engaged in extra-marital relations why on earth should she be that fussed that her son does too?

If Brian, or a hypothetical straight son, had haggssed a female picker would she have been in the least surprised? Or even much troubled?

As to the Adam/Pawel/Ian relationship, could someone please advise me whether it is PC to evaluate it against the same criteria as I would for heterosexuals, or different?

I feel sure either choice will offend some.

    Hi OI,

Ok, take your observations on board..

I wasn't aware that I was in any way critical of the gay relationship between Adam and Pavel.

I just dislike the character of Pavel, full stop.

I sincerely do not believe that Jenny has any inkling of any relationship between Pawel and Adam.
She would be fussed, as you say, because she highly rates Ian and considers their relationship as a serious and honourable one.

Now, the point you make regards Jenny and Brian is a separate issue.
A very serious one, as you point out Brian has been unfaithful.
I wasn't aware that Jenny had been.. Just had a baby before she had met Brien.

The PC as you say would in my humble opiion would be that in all all relationships, whether they be same sex or not, absolute faithfulness to another human being.

Two babies actually - with different fathers, the second of whom she married, then divorced. Then had sex with again AFTER marrying Brian.

Her sepulchre is well and truly whited.

The PC as you say would in my humble opiion would be that in all all relationships, whether they be same sex or not, absolute faithfulness to another human being.

Then how can Adam have tolerated Pawel importuning his partner for sex? Surely he must be horsewhipped off the estate? Would it be OK for him to attempt to have sex with JD?

    Or is he about to?

I think Pavel is a predator and potential stalker/blackmailer

Thus are the victims demonised. Pavel finds himself in a foreign country, well away from his usual support network of friends and family. Thus isolated, he finds himself even further in the minority by being a homosexual in a small community in which there are very few gays in the vilage. His older employer, the man upon whom he depends for both employment and accomodation, takes him to his bed one evening and, having had his wicked way with Pavel, thereafter turns his back on him (again) and cold-shoulders him whilst seeking to blacken his character.

If Pavel is a predator, Adam must be the king of the jungle.

Pawel knew Adam was married. Anyone who dallies with a married person should realise they are never going to be made a priority. That's just how it is, for gays, straights, everyone. For all that Siobhan was a 'lovely girl' she ended up with no one to watch her back, with fatal consequences.

Not that it changes the basic situation but when is someone has just had a major fall out with their partner it can be the tiniest detail that makes the difference between being like Ruth and getting as far as the carpark and going through with it.

I have no idea what kind of sox they had. I wasn't there.

Ok, trying to play fair and not split hairs, he may have been the innocent shrinking flower he portrayed in his conversation with JD. On the other hand he may have been a busy little bunny, getting his end away in all sorts of situations. The way he came onto Adam (ooer!) and then pounced on Ian (no gentle hint hint, it was hand on thigh and kiss) does not suggest inexperience to me. But I can see how someone could interpret it that way. I have known people who launched themselves at anything with a pulse because they didn't know any better. (Actually I think they launched themselves at anything with a pulse because they felt a sense of entitlement, maybe that counts as not knowing any better).

Try starting a 'Friends of Tom' thread, niccers, and see if Freda joins it!

(On second thoughts, I am sure it would have the opposite effect on most people of what you wanted. Which is why you never have. As you were.)
Know what JJ I'm going to do it!

Might kill that one before it starts......
