Prompted me to revisit,. Wouldn't it be nice to have a feature on him on a show, he has produced a lot of music as a solo artist (arguably some of his best)

I borrowed a couple of CDs from my brother; to have a proper listen to this Peter Hammill fella, who I've never really heard before.
They were the compilations:
"The Calm (After The Storm)"
"The Storm (Before The Calm)"
I enjoyed the "Calm" one the most; a very nice suite of ballads.
It reminded me of a few things:
The first Peter Gabriel album; the John Cale mid-70s Island albums; early Bowie; and at times it's a bit Scott Walker.
And maybe it's because I'm Irish that I'm so conscious of this, but his voice is very "English" in its delivery.
(Not a criticism!)
I didn't enjoy the more rocky "The Storm" set as much.
I was expecting a more distinctive guitar sound; a bit of Frippery or maybe some Adrian Belew or Robert Quine style licks.
It is - to my taste - pretty much meat'n'potatoes English rock.
I'm glad I took the time to get to know the guy; and I'll certainly be playing "The Calm" collection again.

I've only got a few albums of PH and VDGG....there are so many and I get told different ones are great. 'Over' and 'Nadir's Big Chance' are two that I love. Really must have a splurge on the back-catalogue, so definitely more PH and less Hatfield & the North/the Tull !!
