I must admit I haven't purchased a whole album yet this year I usually end up with buyer's-remorse, I have downloaded indivdual tracks through iTunes and that's all. I will get the Jonny Cash album and I usually stay up to date with whatever Fila Brazillia release out of loyalty. If you were to order your lists by favourites what would be your top 5? I might even purchase some based on your reccomendation!

Flaming Lips definitely no 1 augmented by stunning live shows.
Forgot about Idiot Pilot which Vic plugged a while back - shouty but melodic. Also Arctic Monkeys and Triffids re-issue of "Born Sandy Devotional".
The Obliterati by Mission of Burma is also great but not if you have a hangover/headache.
Next 4 would be Calexico, Cash, Lamontagne, Muse. Aside from the last one, this has been a very good year for left-field americana.

its not out yet but you can add Micah P Hinson's ..."The Opera Circuit" to the list. 24 year old Texan genius recorded it horizontally due to chronic back pain. If you like Ry Cooder/ Surfjan Stevens/ Lambchop (but with an electric guitar) its out end of August.

I wasn't that keen on Jump Leads, they are from Hull, their first few albums were the best, Old Codes New Chaos and Maim That Tune are my favorites.

"Modern Times" - Bob Dylan. The word genius is indeed over-used but after a week of listening to this masterpiece you can see how he justifies the tag. Great band, fantastic, funny, political lyrics and the voice that annoys so many people is really mellow and relaxed. He sounds interested in his music, again. Its dating me but his best album for 30 years since "Desire".

Agreed, Modern Times is a fantastic piece of work, the first album I've listened to all the way through more than once this year. Played it three times in a row last night alone. Anyway this is getting a bit sycophantic so...
Some others,
Belle & Sebestian Neil Young Flaming Lips Morrisey Sleepy Jackson Secret Machines

Passover by The Black Angels is my album of the year. You either get it or you don't, but if you do, it's a life-changing album.
Honorable mention to Roddy Woomble's solo LP. I was always lukewarm on Idlewild - but this is some great stuff.

Hi everyone, At the risk of being laughed at in this incredibly credible list of artists, I've enjoyed the Boy Kill Boy album Civilian as much as anything else this year. An indie-pop classic Would be nice to see them get a bit more recognition, and a big hit single, with there next song which is out soon. Kim

What no TV On The Radio?
Return To Cookie Mountain was amazing, and for me was perfectly complemented by their fantastic set at Leeds Festival, seen by me and about 50 other people. Everyone else was off seeing them Arctic Monkey fellers, but that made it all the more special.
Also, Tapes 'N' Tapes is awesome, especially for a debut, and god bless the return of Divine Comedy.

Agghh, I'll try and narrow this down:
Favourite Album: The Sleepy Jackson 'Personality' Biggest Disappointment: Snow Patrol 'Eyes Open' Best Compilation: Digital Penetration Vol. 1
Other Favourites: AFX 'Chosen Lords' Arctic Monkeys 'Whatever...' Beck 'The Information' CSS 'Cansai de Ser Sexy' Flaming Lips 'At War With The Mystics' Hot Chip 'The Warning' Howling Bells 'Howling Bells' Isobel Campbel 'Ballad...' Meat Loaf 'Bat...III' Muse 'Black Holes...' TV On The Radio 'Return To Cookie Mountain'
Saying that, the new Deftones and My Chemical Romance albums haven't found theirway to my speakers yet, so this is far from a complete list.
