Chelsea have ended a long-running saga by signing England full-back Ashley Cole from Arsenal in exchange for £5m and France defender William Gallas.

The deal was completed just before the transfer deadline with Cole, who was with the England squad in a Manchester hotel, having his medical nearby.

Good deal for Chelsea, I think most thought Chelsea would end up paying around 15-20 +gallas.

As an Australian Arsenal fan living in Aus, it is difficult to follow everything thatís happening in the Premier League and I canít help but feel I have missed something along the way with the Ashley Cole saga.

Rewinding the clock back to the beginning, how and why did this whole circus start? Why did Ashley Cole want to leave in the first place? From what I can gather he met with Mourinho before his dispute with David Dein and co. I thought he was an Arsenal supporter since he was a child, that he loved the club and that we were successful and ambitious at the time. Did Mourinho create animosity between Cole and Arsenal? Or did Cole genuinely believe that Chelsea was a bigger club and a transfer there would be beneficial for his future? Or was it purely for the money?

Either way it seems to me that Ashley Cole is immature, selfish and greedy. Maybe I have missed important information though? Can someone please fill me in?

not really, they've gained a very good left back, but lost their best defender, for arsenal 20 mill is no good if you can't spend it instead we've got a top class replacement for sol. great deal

Great Deal for Chelsea, Great deal for Arsenal.

As a Chelsea fan im glad we have finally got Cole, but sad to see Gallas leave. Considering Arsenal bid 4m for Gallas just a couple of days ago and Arsenal holding out for 20-25m for Cole, Gallas and 5m is a great deal!!!

We can both now focus on the season and Chelsea 2 win our third title!!! Come on u blues!!

Gallas, what a player! Good deal for both clubs IMHO.

How long have they both signed for their new clubs?

Also Cole fits in with Chelsea and his Chav lifestyle, Chav bird and with that Beckham wannabe attitude he's got it's all perfect for him now.
