The latest FIFA World Rankings show that England are now the 4th best team in the world, ahead of World Champions Italy.

Another notable change is that Northern Ireland are now ranked higher than Wales.

Scotland are up into the World's top 40.

Any thoughts/opinions?

Thoughts? Yeah - it's obviously total b*ll*cks. Surely we all knew that already?

4th best team in the World and can't keep possession for more than 2 or 3 passes? Do these people actually watch football?

Ahh comedy.

It must be based on how many "World Class Players" the Red Tops in each country say the team have...

how is it rubbish? by FIFA standards we are unbeaten in over a year, whereas england have performed and won every game since the world cup italy have been embarrassed by a 2nd rate team (croatia) and a 3rd class team (Lithuania) and havent won a game in the same period. it makes perfect sense for us to have moved above them, esp as weve lost 1 competative game in about 6 years (vs N. I.)

(before the retards get started for ranking purposes the world cup & euro champs games vs Portugal are draws)

They should rank nations after tournaments and that's it...so Italy should be no.1, france 2 etc. then update it after Euro 08 etc. and so on. These, what seem like daily, updates are so pointless it makes the UK Top 40 Single Chart look credible.

Mexico should be ranked higher than England. The number four ranking is a big farce, never mind joke. How does a WC quarterfinalist get a four ranking, ahead of the WC winners Italy.

Brazil
Italy
Germany
France
Argentina
Mexico
Portugal
England
Holland
USA

How exactly can we move above the world champs (who draw with lithuania and lose to france) just cos we beat andorra and macedonia (only just). FIFA rankings are always a bit of a joke....is it actually possible to catch brazil at the top?

You don't need a rankings table to tell you who won the last international tournament (how were you planning to rate the Brazilian's performance after Euro08, btw?). Whether you agree with the method of calculation or not, the point of the rankings is to give some indication of how teams have performed over a few years, not just in a few games over a summer.

If you do pslit the rankings up by confederation it usually is a good indication of how those teams have performed in relation to each other over recent years.

It can't be helped that there isn't more competition accross continents.

You can't just arbitrarily choose who should be ranked where a points system has to exist.

I said Euro 08 etc...that means etcetera
meaning the Copa America etc...see I did it again.

A few games over the summer? It's the World Cup ffs....I'd rather nations were rated in the biggest tournament on earth than some pointless friendly against Greece etc. and there it is again.

coolanglo. why should mexico be ranked higher then england. they have NEVER been passed the second round outside of their country. And they have lost more WC games than any other country (22). england therefore has only lost one game in the last 2 WCs.
