If this is the case with David Beckham, a player who has always played with his heart on his sleave, then why on earth has the new manager brought back Terry Venables?

Talk about past his sell by date. Terry is one of a kind, but the wrong man for the job - its all about whats in it for him rather than what can i do for my country or club, a big mistake.

Venables is a very good coach and could be a major asset to England for the next few years, but there again, who would you like to see as asst-manager of England ?

good question, and i would guess i would like to see someone in that role who could be the next England Manager in a few years. A younger man who may need to understand the England setup...

I'll be very surprised if England recah the Euro 2008 with this set up. Plus with dropping their most influental player Beckham, I can see McClaren out of the job within 6 months.

Why cant ANY english manager get ONE decision right?

Gerrard should be captain, we will win nothing with JT as captain. Our chances are over even before the first match. McClaren OUT!

What? Most influential player? So what have we won with Becks in the team? Nothing.

The only think Becks has influenced as the FA's bank balance a poor tactice for the last 6 years.

Gerrard has the worst Scouse accent and half of the country haven't got a clue what he is talking about. Also it didn'y help his cause that he always looks so bloody miserable. Media would eat him up.

I still can't really believe Terry is captain.

How anyone can watch his dodgy performances in not one but TWO major international tournaments and still have so much confidence in him is beyond me.

Terry's poor defending was the reason we were knocked out of Euro 2004, and he barely avoided embarrassing himself in 2006 as well.

Ledley King is already a better international defender than JT, and in a couple of years Anton Ferdinand and perhaps Dawson will be as well.

Wardy - Didn't Beckham set up all your goals in the WC? Dropping Beckham doesn't mean England will win anything. They are way behind teams as Italy, France, Spain, Argentina, Brazil, Germany, Holland and Portugal.

Same old arguement, Chelsea success is down to money, but there again so was MU's and Liverpool in the 70/80s.

Gerrard cant produce his Liverpool form for England and with the captain armbard whos to say he would improve, infact he could suffer with all that pressure ?

JT is a great choice for captain, it was also a brave choice by McClaren with the pro-Liverpool voice in the press and TV.

I think El Tel was a pretty succesful manager, he got us as far as a semi final somethnig sven never achieved. and he is a better tactician than mclaren so i reckon steve's made a good choice

im sorry but jt was the best player for england at the world cup. i dont think he had a bad game (compared to the rest of the team anyway) he was the one who cleared of the line in the group stages - not sure who against

U cant blame r exit from euro 2004 solely on terry. r u talkin bout the last game and how he played in that or the whole tournament?

I find it strange how you English blame individual players for your failure, when the entire team sucked.
