Steve McClaren has announced his first squad as England manager and as expected there is no place for former captain David Beckham, but there is a call up for West Ham striker Dean Ashton.
David James and Sol Campbell have not been included either, and there are call ups for Man Utd reserve keeper Ben Foster and Kieran Richardson.
Full squad to follow, your thoughts on this news...

Pretty much as press speculation, I don't think it means Beckhams England career is over, it's just giving others a clear cut chance in a friendly. I would expect him to be back in contention for the first qualifier.
I'm more excited about Venables getting involved again, he should never have been moved on after Euro 96.

Doesn't matter who playing - McClaren's tactically inept, can't motivate and will fail.

The most important questions would have to be why has Jenas been taken - he is obviously not good enough to play for England and never gets onto the field yet he is repeatedly taken to sit on the bench
And surely for a friendly it would have been better to take Parker - as lets face it we know all there is to know about Neville

Defoe back in .... excellent, he should never have been left out for Walcott.
Michael Dawson included ... good, he's going to be a first choice CB pick for England in years to come.
Lennon and Jenas both in, plus Robinson of course ... all in all a good day for Spurs fans. 5 players - would have been 6 if not for King's injury.
COYS!!

It's all well and good toasing McLaren for the "bold" move of leaving Beckham out but call-ups for Wes Brown and Phil Neville is absolute ridiculous. They are NOT international players. What next, Nicky Butt? Chris Kirkland has played all of 5 games in the past year or something nutty like that. David James is Calamity but at least you know what you're getting. Kieran Richardson isn't good enough IMO, but he makes the squad due to injuries to Joe Cole.

It's not over for Beckham, I'm sure he'll be back for the qualifiers. Great news about Ashton getting called up, I think he should have gone to the World Cup.

Kieran Richardson needs to learn from Lahm.
David James is the worst English International I've ever seen.
I say Steve McClaren leave out the Neville brothers alltogether.
Have Beckham play like Del Piero..as a sub.
Get Rooney to play as an attacking midfielder.

Hope beckham never plays again. He was the worst captain ever and apart from a few free kicks he has done bugger all. Lennon or wright phillips should be first choice

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
When will Jenas stop getting into squads!
You could use a NASA super-computer to run a simulation of every single event that could possibly occur on a football field and there would not be a single one that would warrant the use of Jenas.
For Gods sake give Reo-Coker or Nolan a shot!
and dont even get me started on Phill Neville.........

I totally agree! Why does the English Press insist on dragging people down? Beckham has just got over injury and at the end of the day it is only for a friendly! Why not give others a chance and let Becks completely recover in time for qualifying???
