Fifa has lifted its suspension stopping Greece and its clubs from playing in international competition.

England's friendly with Greece on 16 August, which is scheduled to be new coach Steve McClaren's first game in charge, should now go ahead as planned

Its good thingbiggrin, I know Greek football has bin corrupt, but a ban all together is way too harsh.

I am certain if FIFA looked into Saudi Arabia's national team..you'd lots of corruption and interference.

" I know Greek football has been correct ", wonder how much that cost the Greek FA to put into Sepp Blatter retirement fund to get that decision overturn by FIFA.

I am glad Greece got banned. (temporarily, I mean) The government here have far too much control over everything and poke their noses into matters which should not concern them. The Sports Minister was given ample opportunity by FIFA to tow the line, but made no effort to meet them half way. It is a shame things had to go so far and the reigning Euro champions had to go through this embarrassing debacle. But FIFA were right and it seemed to be the only way to get an increasingly arrogant and startlingly inept government to play ball!

This just shows that the ban was a warning to the Greek FA/Government to get its act together and if it dosnt this WILL be the consequense.

To those illiterate 606ers: The temporaty ban was not about corruption but about government legislation. Which has now been ammended.End of story.
You dont ban the European champions so easilly. Those who should be banned and striped off the WC are the Italians for their corrupted league and dirty defenders, you know, the Materazzi type.

Its a shame they cant do this for political Governments, one indescretion and its a yellow card for the minister involved, two indescretions and its a red card and banishment to the back benches.

USUAL MUDDLE -and let off -the WHOLE of football is corrupt and that includes England ! -how else does a kid who has no experiance of playing in the Premiership get into the National side -and then isn't played ????? -so why included?????
-the Italian sides will also get off -their supposed demotion will be reduced to a "heavy fine" which then we reduced total of a player's weeks wage.....

To Greek Gunner:

The Greek league is corrupt! Government legislation is all about "what do I get for doing this" and how all the filthy politicians get involved for their own economic benefit.

Don't delude yourself...Greece is known for being a bastion of corruption. It just goes without notice because nobody cares about Greece.

Karol Wojtyla was a goalie, before he became Pope John Paul George & Ringo II. Not sure about the current pope though.

Well, the Greeks care! And if by "the same level as the Vatican's team" you are referring to Juventus' corruption scandal, give some proof of the connection. The Euro 2004 was won by good defense and determination, not by diving and injuring.

And Italy wont the world cup with having a rubbish defence did they? No determination?

If your team were so great, they would have been in the WC.

Im glad that FIFa have over turned the greece suspension - if it had stayed then the Champions League qualifications would have changed due to the greek entries being pulled out.

I heard that a few teams would of course benefit from this, and it wouldn't be hard to guess that Liverpool would have benefitted by not having to go thru qualification. Its good that for once liverpool havn't managed to worm thru underneath the noses of the teams that earned automatic qualification to the group stages.
